Mr. Costello, I am telling you Vroom is already capable (requiring tweaks) of what I describe and I'll prove it!... just as soon as my computer is breathing again. (Don't be confused by my reference to a spring reverb, it's not that kind of sound, I know everyone wants a spring reverb emulation, but we know that's difficult... actually I don't care for it.

I'll wait until your computer is out of intensive care.Architeuthis wrote:Mr. Costello, I am telling you Vroom is already capable (requiring tweaks) of what I describe and I'll prove it!... just as soon as my computer is breathing again. I love the sound of a spring reverb. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. The problem is, an accurate simulation takes WAY more cycles than, say, a really nice sounding Lexicon reverb algorithm.
Plate reverbs...well, I made some algorithm breakthroughs with the Nostromo and Narcissus reverb modes, that would come in handy in the future for a plate reverb emulation. But this won't be part of ValhallaRoom, which is going to be limited to all things that conceivably could be part of a room. The Early section of ValhallaRoom is designed to avoid metallic coloration, and a plate can actually work well with some metallic coloration in place.

Alright, Logic beta testers of 1.0.8: How are things working for you?
The reason why I ask, is that I've had bug reports that 1.0.8 fails validation for a FEW users.
Not ALL users.
Just a FEW.
Unfortunately, I'm not one of those users, so it is very difficult for me to debug this. Plus, it seems like the bug can be fixed by clearing the AU cache, or running validation again, or rebooting, or running Logic in 32-bit mode and then 64-bit mode. All of which are fine and dandy, but are crappy things to have to tell a customer to do. Plus, this means that it might be a file permissions issue, which would be really hard to track down the cause of.
So, if you're having issues, let me know. I can take the news, even if it is hard to hear. Must...(sniff)...be brave...don't let them see you cry, Sean!

P.S. KVR "thread" on the annoying bug at http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=327583. If you can call a single post a thread.

That's some serious tambourine playing at 1'03.

There is no validation problems here. Only problem is when changing presets it can mute Logic audio with one big overload glitch. Often when come to Dark Space algo. It happened 4 times for now. I have to restart Logic to solve this audio problem. It mutes the audio. Odd.

Hope some new algo demos are being made! Can't wait to hear it.

The beta testers are testing away. And found a new bug.Architeuthis wrote:Hope some new algo demos are being made! Can't wait to hear it.
Anyway, hopefully the actual release will be out the door soon, so people can hear Nostromo and Narcissus in action.

I think I know what is going on here. In beta 3, I tried a new memory reallocation technique while switching modes.xtrax wrote:There is no validation problems here. A bit of explanation: The different reverb modes require different amounts of memory. In the older versions, I just allocated memory for the worse case scenario. This would increase the CPU hit somewhat for the reverb modes that weren't making use of the maximum delay lengths.
So I tried reallocating memory for the delay lengths on a per mode basis in beta 3. It does seem to improve the CPU somewhat - not a huge improvement, but a little. However, it sounds like the hit of deleting the memory for the delays, and reallocating different sized blocks when changing modes, is too much of a stress on the CPU when running audio.
I'll take this memory reallocation out, and send 1.0.8b4 out to testers later today or tomorrow.
Thanks for reporting the bug.

Yes I understand you... So I made one demo that you can hear some.. To my ears sounds very expensive!Architeuthis wrote:Hope some new algo demos are being made! Can't wait to hear it.

I've sent ValhallaRoom version 1.0.8, beta 4 out to the testers. The changes since beta 3:
- I went back to my old installer build, on the machine I used to build all the previous versions. This is an experiment, to see if this fixes the AU Validation bugs a few people have encountered.
- I've addressed an issue where things get hinky when changing reverb modes/presets.
Anyway, feedback highly welcomed. If you're a VRoom user and you want the beta for testing, send me a note.

Sean, are you talking about a plate reverb that may actually sound like a physical plate? If so, I'd love to see you take that on next after Ubermod. The EMT140 plugin doesn't do it for me, and while I like the sound of some of the more blatantly algorithmic plates (EMT250, Lexi Plates), I never get the impression that they sound anywhere near as good/realistic as the EMT's you hear on records like Dark Side Of The Moon, Ziggy Stardust, etc.valhallasound wrote:Plate reverbs...well, I made some algorithm breakthroughs with the Nostromo and Narcissus reverb modes, that would come in handy in the future for a plate reverb emulation. Here is a first quick test with the new Nostromo algorithm. I just took some of my soprano sax phrases (mono) inserted VRoom on a Bus, dialed in some settings and. Deep Space...
I love the combo of longer Delays being send into big modulated spaces, now I have that all inside one Plugin in more than pristine quality, VRoom is evolving...

It's about TIME I created a reverb that can get unrealistically long decays!Architeuthis wrote:Ahh, there's my unrealistically giant reverb fix!Sampleconstruct wrote:Here is a first quick test with the new Nostromo algorithm.

What does realism mean in this respect anyway?valhallasound wrote:It's about TIME I created a reverb that can get unrealistically long decays!Architeuthis wrote:Ahh, there's my unrealistically giant reverb fix!Sampleconstruct wrote:Here is a first quick test with the new Nostromo algorithm.
