That's it, I'm gonna win it this month, even if it means resorting to electro-shock therapy!Urs wrote:Cool! I'm throwing a u-he plugin of choice in for the winner![]()

IrionDaRonin, you don't need much improvment of skills judging by your last song, sounds great to meIrionDaRonin wrote:Welcome to OSC, i hope you will have some fun here (and improve your skills too as i'm doing).evileye wrote:Hi all

Thanks for your nice comment Examigan, but i'm a perfeccionist person who likes to learn everyday a bit more, for me never is enough, i demand to myself too much. And anyway, we never stop learning in life.Examigan wrote:IrionDaRonin, you don't need much improvment of skills judging by your last song, sounds great to meIrionDaRonin wrote:Welcome to OSC, i hope you will have some fun here (and improve your skills too as i'm doing).evileye wrote:Hi all

I will die learning.
If someday i think i touched the top, i would feel like a crap really, because i really need to improve myself always. And if i can't learn more, what do to? I would feel demotivated.
I always thought the life is like a mountain, in the top is the goal, sometimes we falling a bit down, so we need to take a breath and continue going up our way.
But my goal (the top of my mountain) is always getting higher, more than me, at same velocity and, in fact, for me, the real worth of life is while you are climbing that hard way to the top of the mountain, and not the goal really.
For example, now i'm learning more about MIDI, and i need seriously to learn more about mastering.
And also my english reading comprehension too
Once again, thanks for your kind comment.
Have a good day

Hi and welcome here. But yes, tempting though it is, no borrowing of sounds from big brother Zebra. Still the option of doing a pure ambient track to avoid the percussion altogether, sure knows this synth fits and i think no one will deduct points for tracks lacking percussive elements.andjac1963 wrote:I'm guessing that if I used Zebra2 in demo mode to create and sample some percussive sounds then this would be against the spirit, if the not the letter, of the contest.

One U-he of choice......? *gulp* That's awesome Urs!!!!
Questions about the rules as it is my first time here..:
Effects (compressor and other effects, but from other vst's)?
Sampling - Can i sample sounds from zebralette that i've made (ie drums to save some cpu) If i can, can i apply effects to them? EQ on a bassdrumish sound?
That's it i think
I just want to know the rules so i dont miss out on anything that i could have used

Yes, only host's native EQ is allowed, all the rest must be 3rd party plugins, free and available to all.
Sampling to save CPU etc is fine, but only as long as the EXACT same result could be achieved using the synth. Eq'ing is therefore ok, but not pitching etc, you get the idea.
Read all the rules here:

I started tonight. I've got a good vibe going, no probs getting some good percussion sounds, though not trying for a "drum kit." I can't believe how much this little equine can do. I doubt I'll need to use anything but Zebralette. Seems like I can achieve any effect I want with out "effects." Yeehaw!
Any recommendations for a good saddle shop that can outfit a zebra?

Well, KVR is the best place to find free plugins. What are you looking specifically? Dynamic and effects too broader a term. Compressor? Limiter? Reverbs? Don't be shy
just mention it.. you will get a loads of option. I would also suggest you go through some threads for the similar discussion. There is a thread pops up every day on "what's best ____?" that blank can be anything e.g. reverb, delay, etc. etc.

I would recommend the Kjaerhaus free lineup, but I don't think you can't get them any more. I still have them from way back, before the company seemed to vaporize.evileye wrote:As it's my first try at this challenge. Were can I find some freeware dynamic and effects plugins?
Thanks
Here are some free plugins to check out:

Is it ok to ask for advice in this thread? Don't want to derail it..
Although that's what kvr's forum are famous for huh
Since you only use freeware (which is good!
), can you recommend a sampling sampler? I've tried the new TX16Wx, but it crashed reaper (though as long as it worked it was great!! Very cool sampler!!!!!!!) ..
Exporting or bouncing audio is possible ofc, but such a bottleneck in creativity. It only need to sample and play the sample (graphical editing for start/end is a plus!)
Note that this is only for sampling drumsounds as the zebralette osc's are "analogish" making the kick for instance vary in attack. Also i'd like to sequence like if they were drums (next to each other instead spread out on tracks)
Does the host need to be freeware or do you have access to them all? I own a "personal use" reaper license and energyXT. Maschine is technically a sequence and vst host. It has built in sampling and you can play them back just as they are.. but in order to check the file you'd need Maschine hardware..
I'd prefer Maschine because of the workflow, but otherwise energyXT is just as fine. Reaper is ok, but i find it a bit bulky (probably better if you record audio etc). EnergyXT demo is limited in the amount of tracks (i think) so in order to view my file you'd need a full version of it.
Maybe you notice i love asking questions
I need to have the creative bounders set so i can loose control in a safe place

I made a "drums" sound especially for this competition. Mostly controlled via velocity, also try staccato:

For limiters, there's W1 Limiter, all of the TBT's, LoudMax, and the Kjaerhus one.
Reverb: Ambience, EpicVerb, TAL, SIR, Poor Plate, AriesVerb, Xhip
EQ: ReaEQ, IIEQ, EasyQ, Audiocation, BootEQ, MEqualizer, SonEQ
Delay: ReaDelay, IxoxDelay, mgTempoDelay, Bionic Delay
Saturation: Just go straight to Variety of Sound's page..
@Examigan: All the Kjaerhus plugs are now hosted at Acoustica.com: http://www.acoustica.com/plugins/vst-directx.htm
If you use Reaper, here's a complete track template with master track and 16 child tracks using the JS: MIDI/midi_note2channel plugin.
Like Satya says do a search on here, but imo the good free compressors are ReaComp, Molot, Audiocation, Rough Rider, Compressive, MjCompressor.evileye wrote:As it's my first try at this challenge. Were can I find some freeware dynamic and effects plugins?

All samplers used must as with the plugins be free and available to all. Highlife is a good one as you can load a VST inside it and it will sample automatically. Then there's ShortCircuit 1 and 2, but they don't sample per se.Crackbaby wrote:can you recommend a sampling sampler?
You can do this with any synth, just use S-Note-Matrix on the drum track which will then send each note to any channel. Here's a preset for notes starting at C2.Also i'd like to sequence like if they were drums (next to each other instead spread out on tracks)

If my understanding is correct, with this tool you can also send the same midi sequence to multiple tracks. As I usually layer the melody in 2 or 3 instruments, I could edit a single midi track, and send the output to any instrument track. Is it correct? Anyway, I'll try it asap, as it could speed up my workflow dramatically!V'ger wrote:
