You may have figured this out too by now, except if there's a bug somewhere ^^ you can load fxb and fxp files by dragging them over a plugin. there's no "link" between the bank files and the plugins, you have to load the plugin first and you have to remember which file goes with which plugin.. that's still very basic and not easy to use
thanks for all the suggestions ! I'll see what I can do for the ASIO config...

Dragging them onto the plugin was actually one of the first things I tried.
Thanks to your confirmation that this method should in fact work, I now realized, that VstBoard doesn't accept capital letters for the file-edings (which is what Reaper uses by default). It's not an uncommon problem though - I know some applications for instance that won't load .MP3 or .IMG
Either way it's all good now.

ack - unfortunately it still only works in very few cases.

Hi, there's some bug fixed in the v0.5.2, all the details here as usual.
But no update on the fxb files yet, except for the upper case files. I could use an example, if you know a free plugin who fails to load a bank file...

wow - that was fast - thanks!
Unfortunately I had to go back to 0.51 though, as 0.52 crashes on me like there's no tomorrow. I had VstBoard set up so that the last project is loaded upon startup, which made 0.52 crash immediately.
I then re-installed 0.51 and changed the setting so that it started with an empty project, then re-installed 0.52. This stopped 0.52 from crashing instantly, but loading a project would still crash it.

Odd... the file format is the same, and my test files are loading just fine. Any idea of what's special in this project compared to others ?

I'll make some experiments and report back.

v0.53 released
http://vstboard.blogspot.com/2011/09/v053.html#more
introduces some really nice features:
-keyb mapping
-on \ mute \ bypass for vst plugs
-delay compensation
will check it when ill get home
edit: just noticed how the name of this thread is really intimidating... "experimental and opensource" are words that most users wont understand and might scare some people.
maybe in the future you could use something like "modular plugin chainer" to describe vstboard
i dont know if that is anymore friendlier though...eheheh.

Truly a nerve-wrecking experience... you have no ideas of what I'm going though here.
0.53 still crashes when attempting to load the project.
It is obvious to me, that VstBoard's memory-management must be someone faulty.
- I deleted after group of my Live setup (which took me many hours to create - remember: since at least 0.51 can't load all .fxp, I had to (re-)program most plugins parameter by parameter
and in between saved to another file.
- I installed 0.53 and tried to load it, when it still crashed, I re-installed 0.51
and deleted more groups.
So much for my basic error finding system - but:
- some groups can't simply be deleted, since that will crash VstBoard. Instead
I have to delete some programs first.
- some programs can't simply be deleted, since that will crash VstBoard. Instead
I have to remove some plugins first.
- one group I can't get rid of. Whenever I have deleted the last reference to one synth, which is shared amongst three programs, VstBoard will crash upon saving. This will lead to a project-file, VstBoard is unable to read.
- due to this reason, I had to start the whole process of group-removing, program-removing, plugin-removing, saving, crashing, re-loading a new from the full project-file. And in the course of this, I forgot to save under a diffrent name, and
that way I lost three complex groups.
I now have found one group, that is responsible for the loading error amongst the remaining groups of my project, but I can't isolate it, because there is this other group I can't fully delete.
I'll report back.

LUCEifer crashes .52/o.53 - it loads fine in 0.51 though - that was the culprit.

As a matter of fact the same still applies to 0.53 (I'm in the process of rebuilding the lost groups of my project).

I shouldn't have!
Now 0.53 did it again: 'Unknown file format. This file can't be loaded' - corrupted durinmg writing. And I am already late for my band-rehearsal this evening - without a setup! Dang - I should just have stayed with 0.51 forever.
I just checked - and guess what! The file is completely empty. VstBoard deleted its content, then saved the file, then crashed. Hours of work simply gone! This must NEVER happen. Please please fix the file-writing process. Comparedn to 0.51 0.53 is crash-city anyway (not that 0.51 was particularly stable) but I can live with that, since I can ensure not to use any dangerous stuff live, but if it erases the whole file during writing - what can I do?

@jens : Sorry for the nerves wreckage
and thanks for the efforts, now I know where to look at, I'll check those plugins. (edit : and please don't spend too much time on the alpha version of an open-source program, s*it WILL happen)
@hcv242 : scaring people is the whole point
I mean, that's really what it is, experimental. and anyone expecting a strong/mature/stable/user-friendly host would be frustrated anyway. But I hope it will become a "modular plugin chainer" one day
