Lotuzia wrote:Here's a new Video Tutorial about Layer Management in the Synthix. Watching it might save you a lot of time if you intend to create complex instruments OR adapt existing presets to project context.

+ It includes three very nice audio demos made by Kelvin Ford, using a lot of instances of the Synthix, including all the drums :-o  :hail:

As other tutorials will follow, if some of you would like a particuliar subject to be covered in one of them, please feel free to ask here and I'll try to adress it.

Thanks for reading and eventually watching the video. Imho its worth it, if only to hear what Kelvin made with the Synthix !

Nice, the track starts at 03:50 i could chill and listen to all day everyday. If this is all Synthix then i'll have this for christmas. Sounds great and nice video with plenty info.

Cheers

Rob
Thanks Rob I'm sure this will make Kelvin's day.

As for the tutorial yes its much easier to learn layers management in a video than in the manual, wich basically tells the same story. And hopefully more pleasant.

Thanks Breakmixer :)

Well as its also on Youtube I think you can grab it using some programs and DL it.

I can do it with the software I use to create the videos tutorials but tbh i never really used it for this purpose. ( Magix Movie Edit Pro Deluxe - The deluxe and pro mentions indicating thats its very probably targeted at noobs like you and me :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: )

Else I've nearly completed the Group Buy Gift Soundbank. If everything works as expected, it's now a matter of days, and omg there are some real beauties inside !!! ............................

Dear Synthix users, Xils-lab has two good news for you :

1/ The GROUP BUY GIFT is now READY and will be shipped tomorrow by Email to all Group Buy members ( If Santa Php doesnt betray us  If not we'll find another way but this one is rather sophisticated and painless if it works -Kudos to -Xavier- ) We think of it as a very beautiful gift !!!

2/ X64 Version are more than on the radar. Windows X64 version ( Elicencer only ) is currently in BetaTest status and available on our public Beta Ftp ( For the braves amongst you  )

The X64 version was in our plans for a long time, and there were major improvements lately when more time was available for this project.

Mac versions and Ilok versions should follow rather quickly now.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day !

Thanks DF2R :)

Yes the gift is a special soundbank of 50 new instruments designed mostly by Adam Borsetti and completed by the humble me.

Hope you'll like it, there are some fantastic presets imho in Adam's work.

The Gift soundbank should land in every GB's customer mailbox very soon.

It's free, so I shouldn't complain. Well I'm not really complaining, just disappointed.
I was a working musician in the 80's, and as soon as powerful samplers came along, and then virtual instruments like Kontakt, we couldn't wait to ditch the unconvincing synth lutes, flutes, brass and nylon string guitars.
:(

Hi Whitten,

I'm a bit sad to hear this, my guess is that you're judging based on the presets themselves and not Adam's audio demos ? Did you try my presets too in the gift bank, I remember I made a huge Hit preset for example, wich played on the bass range will certainly sound like nothing else in the 80's ( except fairlight hits maybe ? )

Well obviously this is also the result of a "you cant obviously please anyone" syndrom. What seduced me in Adam's work was the authentic "Synthex" and vintage touch. Some people during the group buy felt that there were not enough vintage patches, well the Synthex factory bank is full of these antiques flutes, luths, and acoustic guitar recreations.

Otoh I dont think Oxygene or Rendez vous would have sounded the same, and be as interesting, if they have been made with a real classic orchestra, or even a modern Strings and Brass sample library.

Well this is the "marvellous" sound of the 80's, that some people will glorify, while some other people might think of it as quite cheesy, or just uninteresting.

Hope you'll find some inspiring patches in the library however Whitten. Yes its free and a gift for users, but it wasn't for Xils :)

I had a run through the gift presets and I have to say the JMJ rendezvous presets are astounding.
I haven't done a one-to-one comparison with the recording but they certainly conjure the spirit of the original sounds.

Yes, on the pre-sets. I'm primarily interested in the Synthix as a tool to use in my music. Unrealistic emulations of flutes, brass and guitar have no value, especially when there are other ways you can achieve those sounds almost perfectly in the contemporary plug-in scene.

Yes, point taken. Actually when I received the email that mentioned 'the 80's' my heart already sank.
I make music in the 2000's.
I guess at the bottom of it all are a few issues.
Firstly, in use I think the Synthix sounds very good indeed. Very rich, very hardware sounding. As a new plug-in, I don't think it needs to be set up as a nostalgia piece.
I also still find it unintuitive to program. I'm used to programming hardware synths, which is more hands on and often more visual. Therefore my usual mode with vst's is to find pre-sets that are in the ballpark and edit them.
I know it's a little harsh, but I'm not finding a majority of pre-sets in any bank that showcase the quality of the synth in a contemporary music way.
I'd love to see a contemporary pre-set bank, usable (aka tweakable) sounds for RnB, Indie rock/pop, electronica (Air, Chemical Brothers), House, Techno, filmscore etc....
Fewer emulations of acoustic instruments (vibes, brass, pianos) which seem to crop up in most pre-set banks.
If I had the expertise and available time I'd start one myself.

I absolutely love the new preset bank... and much more than the original presets that shipped with the product mainly because I can play all of them without blowing my cpu. Comparing to my Arturia ProphetV2 and Jupiter8V2 the sound is noticeably more snappy, fat and warm. Excellent presets and thank you very much for this gift.

I bought this synth because it was a Synthex emulation not because it was an Access Virus competitor to those wanting more dance oriented/modern sounds in defence of XILS.

My main issue with this synth is the CPU hit... it's just so insanely hungry on CPU power, also the user interface is a bit hard to get around with tabs and what not on layers, envelopes, lfos, sequencers, keyboard splits etc... it's a bit of a nightmare trying to reverse engineer patches.

I would have much preferred a basic emulation with great sound quality... but that's just me. I guess others are wanting much more hence the features.

Further note: XILS should offer a bundle or discounts to existing owners of some of their products... I want the XILS3, PolyKB.
