Hi there,

I'm currently trying to create an EEG lead preset for full control, so to speak with many layers for keyswitches etc.
Now I'm stuck with the position parameter.
I simply can't get EEG to play where I want.

For example I want it to play 10,10,12 on the G,D and A strings, but it always plays it 1,1,2 on the high E, B and G strings.
Now, when I set position to 10 it plays only the lowest note there but the others remain on the high strings, so I get something weird like 1,1,x,x,12 which not only sounds odd, but also is quite unrealistic unless you are Reed Richards AKA mr. fantastic

I also tried to do it via the string selection parameter, but EEG seems to only recognise one string selection at a time.

Is there a way to tell EEG to play every held note based upon the position knob?

Additionally, there seems to be a bug with Reaper or maybe I'm missing something.
When I set for example mute as sustain articulation to keyswitch F6 it works when I press the F6 key in Reaper's piano-roll keyboard, but it doesn't work when I draw short F6 notes into the piano roll. EEG seems to not recognise it (?)
When I draw one long F6 note it works sometimes, but sounds totally different compared to just holding the note manually with the mouse.

I'm pretty confused right now >.<

Hm, if I set the layer position to 10, then it plays 10, 10, 12, like you want.

Reaper by default displays notes in piano roll as having C4 for middle C. Kontakt uses C3 for middle C reference. There's an octave offset option in Preferences.

Hey EvilDragon,

Thanks for investigating.
I have currently no idea why this is happening.
I just loaded the "Blank Preset" in the lead folder and then started creating keyswitches.
Then I used the Kontakt Midi Mapping to map CC20 to the position parameter.
Though it also doesn't work when I set position manually in the GUI.
For testing I drawed the notes A2, C3 and F3 in the piano roll.

I must have set the octave offset at some point in the past because the notes seem to be identical in Kontakt and Reaper.

I guess I figured out the other problem... seems like a timing issue.
Reaper seems to send lower notes first.. When I nudge the notes some ms behind the keyswitches, the keyswitches work.
Now I just have to find out how to tell Reaper which notes it should send first

Man this is pretty annoying.
when I set position manually to 11, it seems to work for a while, but only if I do not use other keyswitches.
then 2 minutes later it seems broken again and no matter what I do I can not get EEG to play the 10,10,12 again >.<

It somehow seems totally random to me... now it plays x,1,2,x,x,x ... where's the third note ?!

When you set the position control, was the layer knob set to the default layer? (layer #0)

I've had issues with the position control as well. The best solution I've found is to use the MIDI Guitar setting and use the MIDI channels to specify which string I want to play each note.

Can you explain how you do that exactly tansunn?
With the midi guitar setting I can't get any sound out of EEG

The first step is to make sure EEG's input channel is set to "omni" in Kontakt. Otherwise it will only read input from the designated channel rather than all six.

If it still doesn't work, you're probably using Kontakt 4. You can find some updated patches that fix the problem in this thread: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=303604

After that, it's just a matter of routing MIDI channels 1 through 6 to Kontakt in whatever VST host you use. Keep in mind that channel 1 is the 6th (lowest) string and channel 6 is the 1st (highest) string.

One of the things I'm doing with the Kontakt 4 update for the Evolution guitar engine is making the whole fretting position setting a lot more predictable and absolute. That way you can count on the engine handling the string selection in a predictable and simple manner.

Till then I can live with the Midi guitar setting.
It's somewhat inconvenient, though it gives the control I'm looking for.
