I'm working on a dark ambient tune right now. I might like to do another, more energetic piece once I'm done with this one.

Which dynamics and EQ effects do you use? (for example in the track you showed us)
TY for the good words
This is my "learn Ableton" track, so most of the processing is Ableton (compressor, EQ, limiter, and saturator to add warmth). There's a little ValhallaRoom reverb (awesome plug for $50!), and the delay is Rob Papen (which I got from the AudioMidi no-brainer). The drums are WaveAlchemy samples (DrumTools 01) - I rarely buy samples but am loving DrumRacks in Ableton. The piano is sampled/sliced/played from an old recording (for that vinyl sound), and the "machine" sounds are from some free samples of switches and motors. The bass of course is Zebrallette.
It's really been an exercise for me in EQ and compression. I realize also that it's lot easier to mix and produce when you don't have big pad sounds, mid-bass, etc., Once you have those "big" sounds, they tend to suck all the energy out of the mix. I love synths so I tend to start with that - interesting doing a track without it!
Irion - am traveling so no access to good sound (laptop speakers!) but will listen to yours (and everyone else's) tracks in a few days

On an unrelated note: It's 9-11-11, and i'm immensely thankful to be able to share my love of music with awesome people from all over the world. Peace, love, and good will to you all...

uhm... I was thinking the same thing, (but before van submission)! Usually I call it "pappetta ambientale" which stands for something like "ambience pap" (maybe there's no translation...).IrionDaRonin wrote:

All in order now
I got inspired for your track, and i wanted to make another atmosphere track just for fun, besides my main track which is finished already.

@IrionDaRonin
Just off-topic a bit...I saw you liked the Little Monsta free synth over in another thread. It would be cool to have it in the OSC at some point like you mentioned.
Another one I thought would be cool to use is TS Substance.
It's free, but he does have a donation button you can contribute with, so not sure if it stil counts as "free".
http://tactilesounds.blogspot.com/p/ts-substance.html
I wrote a real simple demo song for it about a year ago, in the sound examples at the bottom of the page. We weren't allowed to use any effects at all though, and it doesn't have built-in effects (the programmer didn't want us to add anything to it), so the sound of the synth is great, but just real dry is all.

And this and Substance are both in our scoreboard sheet.
But we need to decide which synths will be available each month for vote.
Normally we use the synths by style and by score in the 'vote for synth thread'.
So we usually selecting the top synths, the rescued (three most voted in the last month) and by style, for example, FM, Chiptune, Ambient, Analog, Hybrid, etc, so we make sure about a good range of styles for everyone.
We have 155 synths in the scoreboard already, and the cypher still going up, this last month a bit more slowly, but it's normal.
Just be aware that any top synth or newcomer synth you are thinking right now it's already in our scoreboard for sure. V'ger and me are all day hunting newcomer synths, and some amazing gems from the past.
Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.
Have a good day

The song

Clic on the image to download directly or go to SoundCloud OSC Group to play it before.
Track composed in about 7 hours. As usually all with the mouse, and all were handmade. Except one pad.
The 'vibralead' is just the lead i was looking for years, and i got it from zero easily with this synth, at last.
I will use this amazing synth from now.
I was about to upload the song some days later, but, well, i'm not even thinking about to win the first prize (yeah, i'm very pesimistic/realistic)
due this month will be bazillion entries, you will see.
We are in 12th day of month and we have already 12 tracks, one per day
I got some crackling as usually, even with only 14 instances, but i just blame the external effects.
I'm always trying to extract all the power from my CPU.
I based this track in the same style than 'SoulThriller' and 'A cyborg's Dream'. Pure electronic, which sometimes is ok.
Any problem, let me know. Enjoy the track and i hope you like it.
Have a good day

- You are in front of me, like a newborn.
And don't know who you are and where you were created.
Although i know you are a cyborg,
you have a precious handmade and crafted female chassis.
You have a human expression in your face,
God, you even looks more human than humans,
because there is not evil within you.
Your sight seems innocent,
but i'm aware that you have not heart,
only circuits inside and a powerful L.O.V.E operative system.
Your name is B.E.C 01, a beautiful electronic creature.
The first and unique between millions in the actual year 2017.
I'm still wondering if you have conscience of life.
You can't talk, you still have not a own voice under your shell.
But you can sing electronic music which goes directly through my brain electrical impulses.
That's enought, that's all i need.

Very impressive, I thought the bar had been set quite high but you just smashed it. Just googled Arc Dev ET301, have to get me a copy of that and have a play.IrionDaRonin wrote:Any problem, let me know. Enjoy the track and i hope you like it.

As usually i'm not very decided and i'm always thinking about my track is a crap lol (i demand to myself too much) when upload it. I think i could do better.
Inspired by dreams, cyborgs, futuristic things, thoughts, that's my inspiration source.
Don't search more, you can get them from here KVR Forum there is a link where VSTJunkie dropped a rar with all the stuff in it.
Anyway, Arcane Dev ET301 is just a dub delay, nothing more, but i like to use it so much and it belongs to my equip since some months ago.
The Arcane Dev pack comes with some other nice stuff, for example Cyclotron, an impressive granulizer/glitcher/FSU which you can't use for OSC for obvious reasons
So ET301 and Cyclotron belong to my equip since V'ger told me about that stuff.
And i usually using Cyclotron in my NON-OSC-Tracks.
Have a good day

Hey, Irion, Thank you for the explanation, for lettin' us enter into some interesting aspect of your creative process, you made an excellent work, I appreciate the fact that you made a front cover so nicely done and those verses, yes, you have paid attention to all the detail (as you always do in your tune as I've seen giving a look at your soundcloud tunes). All very nice... I was thinking too to make some front cover (and also back cover, why not)... and maybe now I will spend some more time with it...

There's a possibility that October's u-he patch contest will use Zebralette.
Anybody interested? Has anyone come up with patches that they might submit?
(The winner would get their choice of one piece of u-he software!

It would be a nice chance to win a Zebra. I'm interested.
Please, do it

How do you remove a loop? I'm working on some sounds that I really don't want to loop, and I know there are some presets that don't loop, or is it that the moment you put it in you can't remove it?
