Hi guys and gals. I don't post here much or even browse forums much anymore, but have been a member sice 2004 and multitracking since 2000 with my first DAW as Cubasis that came with my Tascam US428. Previous to all that, I had hardware synths (polymorph, mc303, Korg EX800, Yamaha SU700) plus my guitar and stompboxes to get sounds. I used the sampler for multtracking, then got into computers. My hardware has been gone for years now and i have settled into Ableton Live for the last few years after trying all kinds of DAW's and softsynths, line 6 POD, then onto software amps and effects too.

I recently got an iPad 2 for work and have been experimenting with it and some audio programs. I really enjoy having one small unit to work on with touch controls. feels the most like a hardware sequencer/synth I've felt in awhile and I have several controllers even - Radium with knobs and sliders, Korg padkontrol. I've since given my US428 to my nephew and gone for more compact i/o with lower latency.

My question is - Is there anyone else that would like to do full music production with strictly an iPad, guitar, midi keyboard? I have recemtly read quite a few posts where it is talked about asa musical sketchpad or quick idea recorder, but some of the apps I'm using suggest at full feature possibility for the single musician.

I would look forward to one app that has 16 tracks. Both sequencing and audio tracks, has mpc style sampler/drum machine, a couple synths (VA and FM) and the ability to have an amp sim plugin working on a track. Audio editor too with some effects. How far away are we to that. Given the current price range of music apps, how much would you say is reasonable for something that does all that?

Myself, i would pay $50 to $100 easy if I could get all those features in one app. Doesn't have to be complicated or bloated with extras. I don't need full Sonar/Nuendo/Logic type apps, just simple like an old school sampler/sequencer with 16 tracks and some built in generators and effects.

I'm currently having fun with Nanostudio, Sunrizer, Beatmaker 2, Xenon, Garageband and have not done any guitar work yet as I'm waiting for Line 6's amp app to come available which should be soon.

If you want to see something in a one man band app, let's hear about it. If you think the iPad is a toy and apps should remain limited, then not so interested in hearing about it. I have been thrilled since getting the ipad and do not use my main PC very often anymore. Just too handy a device to put down.

This guy has been signed and has an album coming made only on the iPad. Shows what can be done!

iPad only music can and is being done. It is more challenging, but that can be a good thing. I believe the new iOS 5 is bringing some great things to iOS, and Audio Unit capability is on the way.

That's good to hear people are making albums with it. I find the device and apps inspirational as it is looking and feeling new, but with some old familiarity. Some of my old hardware had serious sequencing limitations and doing it all on a tiny LCD going through submenus was a chore, but I created so much and had a great time doing it. You just learned to work within the confines of the machine.

Computer DAW's changed it for me, but sometimes I like going back to simple things to create. Sometimes too many choices can also lead to inability to proceed with the next track. Like having too many candy bars to choose from in the store and you end up taking too long to pick one.

I have resisted most synth apps because of this. Sunrizer and the Eden synths in nano are doing most of what I need.

This one looks promising. Will continue to watch it and see what new devices people come up with. I'm hoping for a nano studio update. My gripe with nano studio is now that I have transferred 10 gb of samples, the other apps can't see the sample directory. A much simpler iPod sample browser would have made it more universal.

I am now going to be creating much of my music with a laptop and my iPad2. The iPad2 runs through a Presonus Audiobox on a powered hub and an Akai mini-keyboard with pads. I run a wide variety of synths and Sequencers on the iPad. On the laptop, I have everything else I could ever need to create music. Mainly, I am going to use Stylus RMX, Omnisphere, Mictotonic and a few other synths (like PRIZM, Monstrous and my Cloud Player) on my laptop.

I will probably still use my beloved Yamaha s910 for recording and other stuff, but all my groove programming and soudscape stuff will be done on my iPad2 and laptop.

That means my entire music rig is now 100% portable and mobile.
