Conflicting Prophecies (ElectroProg - Seismic Stumble Richter Scale)

This took 14 hours to record in November 2009. The September 2011 Edit/Remix/Master took about 6 hours. A little heavier than my usual stuff. I took advantage of the EnergyXT Hip Hop Loops for this track. during the 2011 remix I decided to "heavy it up" a little.

Yes, indeed, some nice heavy guage beats! Love the string machine, tho at times I thought it a bit overpowering. The sync-y lead was terrific!

a dizzying mashup of different electronic styles; i love music that breaks through genres like this to produce something that's all its own but is informed by a lot of different traditions. nice one.

This was a tough one to mix even though I only used 8 instruments on here! the original track (pre-remix) was LOUD but didn't have the second bass synth (most prominent at the end). During the remix process I was constantly lowering volumes on every instrument, and especially on the strings (Pro-53), lead synth (Pro-53) and the snare on the first drumkit. I also put a fairly severe HCF on the top-end of the strings 'cos I thought they were much too tinny. By the time I finished this I was more concerned about the volume of the lead synth at the end. I wonder, did I take my eye off the ball with the strings? At least it sounds much better than the original.

well, whole tune does sound louder once the strings start up, but in saying that doesn't seem too loud, hitting -0.1 on the way I have my setup, and no hint of anything near clipping. Maybe the first part could be a bit louder ....suppose you didn't want to hear that

The first part was the "chillout" section, just to lure the punters in before I hit them with the hammer! That way the Mrs. can't accuse me of turning up the stereo when she hides the remote control.

There are very good parts in this, just I found the bassline in the first half a little "unresolved", better the second half, even though the strings chords are sometimes hamonically conflicting with the other notes, all IMHO, of course, <grin>

This is one of the shortest pieces I had recorded up to Nov 2009! The bassline was setup as a device to augment the percussive action in the early part of the track, and as a backing for the chordal/lead stuff in the latter part. The second bassline in the latter part of the track was added 4 days ago, as I felt the track was missing something in the bottom end when the chords and leads entered the fray, and I needed a punchy ending. The main string motif was written 2 years ago but I felt it was fairly "pleasant" and light so I deliberately added the darker chords to introduce them. I felt they had an "edgier" feel to them. I don't usually like to let the listener get too comfortable. Conflict is a way of life for me!

Great stuff - as I'm listening, I'm thinking hmm, nice tough drums...hmm, like the portamento synth...hmm, love the string machine...hmmm, wow cracking lead synth.

Sounds like you spent allot of time on this! Slick! Nice mix. All instruments are clear and stand on their own. I like that deep low growling bass. And the strings give the track tension and energy. And I like how unexpected the harmonic movement moves?
