Does IK have any plans on making something with a dedicated audio output?ObiK wrote:

I think there is still a void waiting to be filled by a really decent audio/MIDI interface for the iPad. The Alesis IO Dock looked like a real winner. But one of the big problems with it is that it was obviously designed to be used in landscape position. Some music Apps work in portrait. It's also a bit naff that you can't sync while docked & that any video is automatically directed to the IO Docks (low res) video output.ObiK wrote:No telling what the future holds...
Looking at the IO Dock has made me think that the best solution for an iPad audio/MIDI interface is not a docking station at all but a separate unit that connects to the iPad's docking port. That eliminates the problem with Apps running portrait or landscape and if it could address some of the other issues that are inherent with the IO Dock then it could be a real winner.
People will have their own preferences about exactly what connections are required. But for me a pair of 1/4" jack in/outs + a MIDI in/out/thru would be basically all I needed.
Of course another problem is that some Apps use the IK iRig for audio input. This connects to the headphone output on the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch. So as far as I know interfaces connected to the dock port (including the IO Dock) won't work with these Apps that receive their audio input differently. Could this be addressed with an update to the App maybe?

To be honest I'm surprised some company hasn't jumped on this yet. Some seem to be dipping their toes in the water, maybe not totally convinced of the iPad's prowess as a weapon & tool in the music tech arena?! The Apps available should remove any doubts. The iPad is crying out for better connectivity & integration. So far the Alesis IO dock is the only device that has come near to satisfying this requirement ..... Actually (adding to what I said previously) if the IO Dock had of been a separate unit, instead of a docking station, it could have worked with the iPad, iPhone & iPod touch! Bit of a wasted opportunity. If you think about it what is the benefit of having the iPad sitting in it's own dock? Especially when you consider that it can't sync to a computer whilst docked! Anyway, clearly their is a void waiting to be filledObiK wrote:Thanks for the suggestions.

iConnectMIDI does what you want and it's great for integrating MIDI with iOS device + controller + DAW, but it is expensive: RRP is $199, street price a bit lower.

Still no sign of the configuration software either ... seems permanently in beta
Peace,
Andy.

Yes, sounds very good that. Bit pricey though. I'm also not sure what benefit this will offer me over something like the iRig MIDI.ZenPunkHippy wrote:iConnectMIDI does what you want and it's great for integrating MIDI with iOS device + controller + DAW, but it is expensive: RRP is $199, street price a bit lower.

I have a question... I thought that this might let me use my iPhone as an XY pad to control software instruments. Is this correct? My idea is to velcro my phone to my guitar face and use it that way.

Hi ObiK,
Congrats on iRig MIDI and Sampletank for iOS - both look great. We just released Alchemy Mobile which is Core MIDI compatible and therefore should work great with iRig MIDI. Therefore would be great if you would include on your compatible apps page: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/irigmidi/mo ... leapps.php Could you have a word with whoever puts that page together and ask them to add it?
The iTunes page for Alchemy Mobile is here:
http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/alchemy- ... 05977?mt=8
Thanks
Ben
