Camel Audio has announced the release of Alchemy Mobile
v1.1, an update to their free iOS app that turns your
iPhone/iPad into a powerful synthesizer. The Pro Upgrade has
also been updated with loads of new features, and for a
limited time you can pick it up at a 25% discount - just
$14.99/€11.99/£10.49. Three new mobile Sound Libraries have
been released as well - Dubstep, Guitar Mutations and
Dance & Trance - which are available as in-App purchases for
just $4.99/€3.99/£2.99.

The free version now offers greater expression with velocity
sensitivity and the ability to sweep the filter on each note
by sliding your finger up and down the key. Support for
Sonoma AudioCopy/AudioPaste has also been added to make
working with other music Apps easier than ever.

The Pro Upgrade now includes many new features, including
Virtual MIDI which allows you to control Alchemy from other
Apps such as SoundPrism Pro, project saving so you can
recall your song sketches, and WAV and MIDI export to make
it easy to bring your song ideas to the desktop. It also
lets you intuitively pitchbend by sliding your fingers left
and right on the keyboard, which makes it possible to create
even more expressive performances. Various other functions
have been added too - see below for the full list of new Pro
Upgrade exclusives.

Just visit the iTunes App Store to download the free
version. Upgrading to Pro is easy once you've installed the
free version - just tap on the preset name in the upper
left, switch to the Libraries page and select the Pro
Upgrade to purchase.

Great news and congratulations with the release. Yesterday, I was this close buying an iPad 2 to compliment my iPhone, now I'm not close anymore - I'm definitely getting myself an iPad 2! 8)

Alchemy is great, very nice app. I upgraded to the pro version and bought the extra sound banks.

I'm having trouble installing Big Tone, it tries to download it then says installation failed then my wifi connection cuts off. The other packs were fine, it's just Big Tone. I have tried restarting my IPad 2, the app and my wifi router.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the feedback. Re the BigTone bank we have tested this today and the download / installation is working OK.

Best thing to try is logging out of your Camel Audio account in the app, quitting the app (maybe also try Force Quit). Start the app again, and the bank should be listed as downloadable again. Please let us know how you get on ...

Peace,
Andy.

Our cunning plan is that if you get really into it, you'll want to pick up some extra sound libraries, or use it as a remote control for Alchemy/Alchemy Player which requires the Pro Upgrade. We wanted to put out a free app so that everyone could check it out fully and find out if the app suits their needs - I find it annoying when you have to buy stuff without being able to try it first. Also, we hope that those people who don't want the extra features may at least show it to their mates and news of our stuff will spread further.

I'm really sorry you're having this problem. We've tried on loads of different devices and can't repeat the issue. Rest assured we will work hard to resolve this problem - we're in this app business for the long haul just like we are with our plugins as so will work to rapidly resolve any issues and respond to user requests. Could you drop an email to support <at> camelaudio.com with full details of: how many free MB of free space do you have (if there's not enough space it may not be able to extract), your iOS version (if its not the latest please update), your device and the email address associated with your account. Thanks and apologies for the hassle.

Maybe a longshot, but any plans for an android version?

Well that strategy works I can tell you. I have just bought the arp dimensions and big tone lib. They are really my kind of stuff. I didn't even have to get really into it, I just listened to the demos.

Anyway, congrats with the wonder, Ben. It sounds extraordinary good. Have never owned the Pc version but now I know what the hype has been about.

Your cunning plan has worked! I already own Alchemy on my computer, but now to have it on my ipad2 - WHOA!

Of course I will upgrade it. Of course I will buy the optional sounds.

My question is, how can I put my sound packs in Alchemy format and put them for sale in your app and online store?

Glad you like it :D Thanks for buying those libs. The congrats are due to not only the whole Camel Audio team but also Desmond and Lauwerens from a iPhone development company called Innovatic who've been helping us out. It's been a struggle of epic proportions to get the Alchemy engine working on iOS devices, as they're not as fast as their clock speeds would imply.
My question is, how can I put my sound packs in Alchemy format and put them for sale in your app and online store?
Currently only sound libraries from Camel Audio are available for the iOS app. Some customization of Alchemy presets is required to get them working on the app - primarily to reduce the number of zones if many files are referenced to reduce the memory footprint/download size and secondarily to provide per device polyphony values. We may provide unsupported docs on our forum to explain to users how to get their own sounds on the device but its not something we'll initally support. In due course we would like to make it easier for users to get their own Alchemy desktop presets onto the iOS device, but the priority we give this relative to other features will depend on what requests we receive as well as sales.

In terms of products for sale within the app, we intend to bring out more of our desktop sound library line on the iOS device over time, responding to requests from users in terms of what kinds of sound they'd most like more of - so if anyone has particular requests, by all means ask here. Its unlikely we will put out libraries which are available for iOS only - the plan is to have libraries available on both platforms as this makes moving between the platforms more seamless for musicians.

If you'd like you'd like to create an Alchemy desktop sound library (which could then also be distributed on iOS), please send us your 10 best presets to support@camelaudio.com and we'd be happy to take a listen. We of course won't do anything with the sounds without your permission.
Maybe a longshot, but any plans for an android version?
I'm afraid we don't have any imminent plans to do so, but its something we're happy to look at as things develop. Here's the answer regarding that question in our FAQ:
There are several reasons why Alchemy Mobile is currently only available for iOS:
- the majority (52%) of our user base own an iOS device whereas only 15% own an Android device
- the extra work to support both platforms would be huge, and since we are a small company with limited development resources it makes sense for us to focus on the platform used by the majority of our users
- Android currently has much higher latency than iOS resulting in worse performance
- Android doesn't have a MIDI protocol for attaching devices

The Android platform is also more fragmented. With so many devices available it is extremely difficult to provide a consistent experience for all users, and this also makes it harder to test.

We have absolutely nothing against Android - this decision was made purely for the reasons given above. Should these things change we would be happy to consider porting Alchemy Mobile to Android. In the mean time, we would recommend Android users make use of TouchOSC or other Android MIDI controller apps.
Cheers

Been using the beta for some time now. The remote app is just amazing - I was surprised at how responsive it is and you can even use the iPad keyboard as an extra keyboard. It's great to be playing it on the iPad but hearing it through my speakers as it controls its big bro. It has pretty much replaced Kore now as my controller for Alchemy

It's a fantastic app.Great using it with ipod touch.
I'm quite tempted to get an ipad as well now :)

Just downloaded the app - very nice!

One thing though - it appears it will not connect to virtual midi ports or work in the background? Am I missing a setting? Would be a shame not to be able to connect this to an iOS sequencer, etc. I know that many are not doing this right now - Sunrizer and Nlog Pro do - but sure is nice to have.
