After sorting Audio and MIDI problems out on my friends cubase he is running into more problems... now when he access any program outside of cubase (for e.g. turning volume up or down in windows) the audio stops coming through in cubase when he goes back to it... if he changes the Audio driver from ASIO4ALL to another driver it throws up some 'error' and crashes?

Runtime Error! R6025 - pure virtual function call.

thanks in advance

Cubase 5

we are busy re-installing the application as the research on the error suggest corrupt install...

i just hope the sound stopping when coming out of cubase is sorted too, the only way to prevent it was to disable the option "release audio when program is minimized" (or something like that) so that it kept the audio the whole time and you couldnt hear audio in windows (ASIO4ALL) - it was related to the audio being handed back to the program which seemed to cause problems

EDIT: SORTED... uninstalled, created restore point, cleaned out registry with wise reg cleaner, re-installed it and working fine..

GUTTED... not sorted. the problem is back... after a search on google it seems to be a common problem with Cubase

Tried "Release ASIO driver in background" in Cubase?

your system isn't accepting this changing of drivers with Cubase running. your problem resides there, that's your focus as far as getting any relief.

Cubase 5 does not per se crash from switching drivers (unless there was a bug for say 5.0 and that's what you have installed and haven't updated. point zero, 0.1 version numbers aren't terrifically reliable historically). Every time I trash prefs I switch drivers back to my RME. I have switched drivers back and forth with DP and Cubase 5 both open, Cubase didn't crash. but I would look at the drivers, and to be frank suggest your friend get proper ASIO drivers with a soundcard. I don't know what other drivers and I don't really get the compulsion of needing to hear audio via another driver just to have windows volume control active, but whatever.

if you find from research 'a common problem with Cubase', you might check to see if eg., ASIO4ALL is also a common factor.

If you are running 64 bit cubase, I would suggest switching to 32 bit. It got better with the last realease before 6 (5.5.3) but 64 bit is still a work in progress for cubase (which is very annoying right?)

In any case, I have always gotten fast response from steinberg support, and their people are pretty good at figuring out strange little problems.
