The person that's been handling this license transfer has been out ill for a few days, unfortunately. We've located the transfer request and it has been approved.

To play devil's advocate a bit, you didn't buy a "thing." You bought a license to use software and the difference is important. Most sample based instruments don't even ever let you do a license transfer. Lot's of business software expires.

But I do agree that if Spectrasonics is going to allow license transfers they should just set up some automated way of doing it easily. I just dealt with NI and I had to use human support... why? No human was involved in my purchase. And I wasted someone's time just to find out that the Reaktor instrument I downloaded is different than the Absynth instrument I downloaded. It's like companies agree to do it, but don't really want to do it, so they put up speedbumps (or in Spectrasonics case, speedmountains). WTF? Do it or do not do it. In this case all they're doing is making people angry.

In my case, I really don't consider any software transferable and I only did the NI stuff because I bought Komplete 8 and ended up with duplicates. If you really expect to sell something in your studio you should buy hardware.

If Eric responds to simple posts like that, I have a hard time believing that they are not responding to your request. Are you on some sort of no-fly list in the software world that they haven't approved the transfer yet?

And hey, you are lucky they even offer this- even NI doesn't allow you to resell software unless it is packaged (you can't sell any downloaded instruments).

just because you "have a hard time believing it" doesn't make it not true. I have heard a ton of people complain about how long it takes to transfer a license. Why they charge $50 for such crappy service is beyond me.

It should be pretty clear by now that Spectrasonics either has a serious learning disability, or is just plain dishonest and deceitful when it comes to these types of requests. History repeats itself far too often.

Of course, my wife might have something to say about my attitude- but luckily she is scared of KVR hahaha

I never buy music software with the intention of selling it afterwards. I prefer to keep what I buy because "you never know" I'm kinda obsessive about it too - even things I almost never use, I could never bear to be without them once I've acquired them. :D

My girlfriend is like that but she has a serious case of OCD.

When I bought a second hand Spectrasonics licence a few months back, they were extremely helpful and the whole process from me contacting the seller to transfer was a week.

Then when I had trouble installing, Spectrasonics got me a new updated installer FOC (except nominal postage) which arrived the next day (via their UK distributor).

They should just not allow license transfers- then we wouldn't have these typs of threads.
I guess this can all be solved by having some hardware encryption required for their stuff.
Let's all get on the hate-on about that idea now!

Please, no hardware encryption.
Anyway i am with you, either do not allow it at all or allow it and make it function flawless. With NI i have never had any questions of why i need to sell it or explain my financial situation etc. 1-2 days and good to go. That's how its supposed to be imo.

I wonder how many movie soundtrack producers request to get rid of Spectrasonic's stuff??

I realize it is probably conjecture, but if the idea is to make it difficult for people to get approval for a transfer so that it discourages them from selling their products, I wonder how successful that tactic has been for them (do people end up keeping their products because of the hassle), and if so, does it offset the number of people that will no longer buy their products because of the hassle to get a transfer? (Unfortunately I am in the latter group of people.)

Post

Unfortunately, not everyone is a professional soundtrack producer.

Isn't the NI license management challenge/response? I haven't forgot that's what we should stay away.

A few years ago I purchased Trilogy secondhand. There were no problems at all. I would imagine the vast majority of cases go smoothly and the occasional not-so-smooth ones result in vocal complaints. Most people don't feel the need to post a thread about a simple successful transaction, because it's the norm.
