It's been a long long time since I used garage band (my imac suffered from an unknown virus a long long time ago :hihi: )

I'm sure it's pretty hip these days. Do they still have that animated band thing? That came out a version after the last one I had.

...Tried several, but in FL Studio everything is so easy and FUN to do. I can already do all I want and need in it, and it's deep. It has overwhelming capabilities. Add to that free updates for life and an amazing support from the developers themselves in the forums, and it's just an awesome package. Thanks Belgium.

Garageband is UNDERRATED. I've heard some amazing productions done with Garageband. I use a lot of high-dollar DAW's but GB is actually more than adequate to do demos, etc.

Cubase BUT

After reading about Reaper I am definitely going to check it out again. I tried it on version 2.x and didnt care for it, but Cubase is so frustrating to use that I find myself always looking at reviews for other daws (sorry hosts :P)

For example, the other day I was doing a project with Embracer, an included synth. I went to export the audio... and silence. Spent about an hour and a half looking everywhere for the problem only to find that this is a known bug. And this synth has been around for a little while, maybe since version 4. I constantly have these problems with cubase. It is a love hate relationship because there are some things that I really really like about it, but just when I start to think that this may be the best daw ever, I spend hours trying to chase down some little mundane detail that manages to bring my project to a halt. All of these problems have the effect of increasing the cost of the software, since time = money. Cubase sometimes feels like old software with new features mashed into it.

Version 4 of reaper looks awesome, and I am excited to check it out.

I wish Ableton would make the skin for Live 9 look exactly like Reaper 4 while keeping everything under the hood exactly the same.

Well...except for the new Live enhancments that obviously takes 3 years to develop.

:)

I found myself wanting to switch to Reaper 4 just because it's so pretty. Then slapped myself into reality when I realized that I would have to compensate for 7 years of overcoming Live's learning curve. :hihi:

Steinberg Cubase 6! I plan to buy this! I tried out FL Studio and really liked it but Cubase inched ahead of it by a little... Cubase 6's interface is so modern and graphically pleasing! Precisely the opposite for version 5 though. Items on the Timeline looks really ugly with those solid colours and black outlines... I can't even make any music on it even though I tested it many times already...

I think live's gui's is one of the trademarks of the company, its 2d in comparision to all the others. It looks simple and nice, very straightforward design.

That being said I will like some options for customization: Font size, size of individual graphics elements, for example the meters of audio in tracks are really small.

It works fine. It's very efficient per resources like Logic, integrated well with Apple hardware.

When I used it, just to see, I found one thing which was a total deal-killer: the timeline only did 4/4. (Don't know if they changed it since.) I found a nice gamelan loop in it, that was in 7/4, so looping that and knowing what time it is was a little more work than I would actually do unless I was forced to. 7 bars of 4/4 for four interations of the loop, sure, but...

I'm in the 1% club (even though I also use Sonar X1 about equally with PT).
