edit, the above quote was not from wiki but from here

http://sound.westhost.com/class-a.htm

a quote that contradicts my post and susiwongs point about class being misunderstod that is in fact quite interesting
Another version of the Class-A amp looks exactly the same as a standard Class-AB (Class-B) power amp, except the quiescent current is increased to just over 1/2 of the peak speaker current. This is thought by some (including me up until I was shown the error of my ways) that this is not a "real" Class-A amplifier. It is real Class-A, and is best described as push-pull (as opposed to single ended) operation. If the bias current is not high enough for the actual reactive speaker load (not some quoted nominal resistive load), it is still possible that one transistor or the other will switch off at some part of the signal cycle. This will happen at a much higher power level than is normally the case, but if this happens, then the amplifier ceases to be true Class-A.

okay so my guitar chain so nice and neatly layed out is all over the place and thinking about sorting it all back to normal makes my head pound. I spent the day at different times just going over trying the boogie with different things, in fact I went a little :nutter: when I ran the frenzel out into the boogie dual gain input with the tubscreamer in front of the frenzel AND using my aby so the frenzel is using both inputs together :hihi:

First let me say that a :dog: moment came when I remembered the weber attenuator has a treble boost switch and I always have it set at 3db so this might account for my not hearing a loss of headroom. The cat's meow is my tubescreamer into channel 2 (only one drive) on the boogie with the master at about 6 and attenuated. Right now my cab is miked with 2 large dia condensors.

This sound is much different to that of the frenzel with the tubescreamer, neither could be called better but they do share that jingly, jangly, clean, tight, biting distortion. Of course the tonestacks are much different and the boogie has a presence as well. The boogie now has this very raw and natural feel, I'm running a send and return from my soundcard to an Alesis midiverb4 with a plate setting but of course I would record it without the reverb.

This is very much hi-gain but if I run the same signal out of the TS into the dual drive channel on my boogie it's overkill unless I back off on the TS but tbh the TS is far better at being a pre-gain stage and going into channel 2.

This brings more contrast for me and this is just the beginning, two years ago I never thought I would be here. When I was young having one great amp was all I could do, I never thought I would see the day I would have more. Then I got confined to apartment hell and amps were out of the question...ahh but now amps are better than ever, my place is tube amp friendly so I finally got my cake and can eat it too.

I really dont care is it's class A. class B or gym class...this kicks ass :tu:

for dean and paul (re: FB conversation)...for others, the disscussion is about the clearance for the YJs (they do make a 'shorty' version)

the egnater, as you can see the tubes are going through the top and I had to remove the vent cover.

once again, the boogie....if it still had the reverb tank I would not have room and like I said on FB if I had a head without the room I would just cut a hole in the bottome of the head which I hope I dont have to do when my new Jet City 50 watt arrives :hihi: (if it does I will probably order a set of shortys instead of killing my warranty...maybe)

edit: the boogie is 9" high, the jet city is 9.5" so it should be fine. Either way I still plan getting another set of YJs because MF has a credit for me in the amount of 35 dollars. They did not sell the YJs that are for both fixed and cathode biased but they do sell the ones for just fixed (which will work in the boogie)

So by my daughter's b-day (which is the 11th of the month) I hope to have this set up

Frenzel pre with two watt power tube

Egnater Rebel 20 with 6v6 and EL84 (stock)

Mesa Boogie SOB with it's own set of YJs but because I will have 4 YJs that will fit it I will be able to run it at 20 0r 40 watts (pentode, with 2 EL84s) 60 or 100 watts (stock 4x6l6)

Jet City JCA50H Soldano Tube Guitar Amplifier Head - 50 watts 2x6l6 or 20 watts (pentode with 2 El84s)

I already have the first three and of course the YJs can go in the Eganter for more options (that's how I have it set up now)
