I'm struggling a bit with extracting the tempo properly (for midi clip export), and as I said, the UI does not really fit a slicer, so its a little clumsy.
Ecallio, if you could add a couple of things to what you already have in place currently I think it would help:

1. Sensitivity control for the slicing threshold

2. Mapping of slices to keys

3. No limit on the number of slices. Sometimes for my experiments I'll slice like half of a song and just want to pick sounds that I never thought of.

I have a deep yearning loss for Phatmatick Pro as it sliced just the way I liked it. Yes, I could grab it for $150 but I always felt it was way overpriced. I haven't found anything remotely similar functional wise. I guess people like to slice to make sense, I slice to experiment.

This would be a great alternative to REX support or other types of beat slicing! Actually, I would even like this more since it'd be so distinct from all the other options!

This app looks really promising. :tu:

I do both, and really loved Phatmatick Pro also though I too think it is/was "overpriced".

One of my 'methods' of finding "sounds I never thought of", is to load a file (song-what-ever) into Sound Forge which has been my software "sampler" of choice since v1. in addition (more recently) to the tools inherent in Ableton's *Sampler*.

I just create a 2-3 second "loop" segment, and use the arrow keys to navigate ("scrub") that 'segment' back and forth through-out the file, while playing it. When/if something interesting POPs out, I expand/trim to taste and export it to a new file. Simple.

So, long time for this update. Some tricky code to get the analysis and dsp "correct". But now you have it; v0.9.07 with beat slicing and slice mapping. Also featuring auto layout, midi file export and more. Enjoy.

After this I will probably do the dreaded update of file/program name handling, fix whatever bugs pop up, and with some luck we'll soon reach a 1.0. Keep your fingers crossed.
Cheers

From your previous illustrations, "save-as" should change the name and all associations (paths) of something which has been modified from that which is previously "saved". However, I too liked using "special charactors" in file names, though I have reduced that 'need' to under_scores-and-dashes.

As to saving in general, it would be super cool to have a "save+" function both for program names, and edited samples, the latter would have priority (AFAIC). e.g "save+" = "save-as" (naming the file once) THEN hitting the "save+" button AGAIN saves your modification(s) incrementally appended.

For example, KNOWING I am going to do this, I hit "save+" and I save a file naming it "Monkey", then make some modification to it and hit "save+" again, and the file is 'auto-saved' as "Monkey-001", with no window or dialogue box POP-UP. Subsequent modifications are "save+" = "Monkey-002", "Monkey-003" etc.. the benefit is no lag, no stopping to type in a new name - and no significant break in flow!!!

Cantabile has this feature, and it is a GOD SEND!!!

I just checked out the new version. Love the slicing efforts, ecallio!! However, TX16w seems to have problems whenever I slice a file, save it in my DAW (Orion for me) close the file & then try to re-open it.

I tried to save the performance & bank & well & neither of those load up for me either. :help:

Can you send me the program file + samples? Obviously something wrong in the xsd...

Seems I suck more than usual. 0.9.07 had a pretty severe error causing crash on Wave->"Save As". This is now fixed, and version is 0.9.071. I recommend updating asap if you've downloaded 0.9.07.
Sorry.

Is there any "one minute tutorial to drag/drop a file, have it sliced and keymapped" around ? :D
I have drag/dropped a file onto the GUI, but i don't hear anything when i hit my controller's keys, and i don't see the wave file display... It seems there are quite a lot of mouseclicks involved, or am i missing something ?
Thanks !

I think you can synthesize the above from the Quick Start Guide. Otherwise I should perhaps revise it! ;-)

The "<" & ">" and the"+"&"-" buttons for adjusting the start/end point of a sample behave strange...they get stuck often...
BTW, excellent work!

Yeah, its quirks with window events, but just because you mentioned it I looked into it again, and noticed where I've missed handling a message, so it's fixed in next release! :)
