When i'm listening it, i can imagine like, if i'm totally surrounded by a white light. Like entering into it. Any ideas about the name?
Or, Luminance

Also, thanks to all you who voted Charlatan as the synth - I looked at it, tried it and said to myself "oh a 2 osc, 1 lfo, 2 env synth, this incapable synth will suck."

... but the short time I've worked on this months entry, I've proven myself completely wrong - indeed it's very stable and already provided a much wider variety of sounds that I thought possible.

I suppose that's what I get for being a preset junkie for so long; this competition has been a great way to diverge from that.

Just having joined last month, I've been given a completely new outlook about programming synths - now just to apply all this to all my hardware and commercial gear. ;)

Good luck everyone.

Hoping at some point I get the time to devote to achieve your level of success. This one is pretty rough on me so far.

I click the Charlatan pic and went to the bottom of the page and only show a Windows download. Is this available for Mac's?

This and this both indicate it's a Windows-only plug. Of course, if you run Linux (or ElementaryOS, which is awesome), it (and REAPER) works perfectly with the Wine compatibility layer. Since Mac switched to FreeBSD in OS X+, you may be able to install Wine on Mac, but you'd probably need to run a sequencer with Wine instead of your native Mac one.

Thx for the tips z.prime, but yes Charlatan windows only i'm afraid, not all that many cross-platform freeware synths and we've already used most although still a few more to come.

@nineofkings: Most, but not all of Reaper plugins ReaPlugs are free and available to all so those are are therefore ok.

Thanks for the Reaper plugins tip, I'm about to grab me a bunch. I never realised they were free, when I saw the good folk on this forum using them in their choons I just assumed they were using Reaper as a host.

Included in the package is the JS host VST, some real JS gems out there. Stillwell has done a few, the 1175 modeled limiter f.i. is as good as any free limiter and there's a lot more like Major Tomcompressor, Midi humanizer etc.

Finally managed to devote some time to this little synth. Wow, what a powerful, yet simple little device. I can't believe how basic, yet flexible this bad boy is. Great choice.

Anyone having problems with Charlatan and Ableton?

I'm using Live 8.2.1 and if I load an instance of Charlatan on a track then duplicate that track 4 times, save the project then exit and Live crashes on me. Also the latency suddenly becomes really poor. I've moved all my plugins out of the plugin directory and it deffo seems to be just with Charlatan. Zebralette and Sylenth let me load a large number of instances, as you would expect.

Its very puzzling. Any other Ableton users experienced this? Couldn't find anything on the Ableton forum.

I might download Reaper and give that a go, could be an excuse to learn reaper.

What are people's thoughts and experiences regarding Reaper?

Cheers
Aj

At first I was loading just one or 2 instances of the synth in Sonar 8.5 and it was ok. But at some point last night, after I would save the project, and had 4-5 in there, it seemed to save ok... but then I would close out of Sonar, and then a few seconds later an error message would appear.

It said Sonar had to close, even though I already closed out of it and saved the project. :?

Later on, the project/song seems to load back in ok, so I'm not sure what's up.

I've mentioned this to the developer but first make sure u have the latest version 1.1 in case that's enough to fix it: http://www.blaukraut.info/

I Downloaded the latest version again just to be sure and am still getting problems. As soon as I load more than 3 instances Live will let me save the set but then crashes.

A little bit odd but then I'm a software engineer myself so I'm more surprised when software works rather than when it doesn't

Seems to be stable with 1 instance so I'm thinking I'll work with that and sample rather than learn Reaper. I feel more comfortable in Ableton, plus it wasn't cheap so I like to use it!

What's strange is this sounds exactly like the known multiple-instances-on-multicore-cpus bug with synths developed in SynthEdit.

Switching DAW's can be a pain, but it would be useful to see how multiple instances work in other hosts on the same system. Reaper has a saveable demo so can replicate the re-loading thing too.

I was getting crash messages in Ableton, after saving and attempting to exit the program with version 1.0. Downloaded 1.1 yesterday and so far, I'm running nine instances of Charlatan without any hiccups.
