Hello...

Is FL10 the most popular DAW with Trance Producers these days ?

Is Propellerhead 'Reason & Record / Reason 6' a very popular DAW as well for Trance production ?

As far my observations go, I notice that most Trance Producers are using FL10, although some use other DAWs, ie. Live, Reason, Cubase, Logic Pro, ...etc. but it seems like FL10 wins the popularity prize so far.

Is this a pretty realistic picture as far as popularity of FL10 among Trance Producers ?

A bit of feedback would be fun, and useful.

Thanks,

I don't think anybody is going to be able to definitively answer that question for many reasons, the most obvious being, that defining "trance producer" is not a simple thing to quantify. Moreover, why the hell does it matter? FLS is very popular among trance producers and producers of many other genres.

The one thing that we can say about FLS users is that they are the most insecure DAW users on the planet, always looking for ways to legitimize their choice. If it works, just use it and stop worrying about who is and isn't using it, or what other DAW users think of it.
Logic Pro | LUNA Pro | OB-X8 | Prophet 6 | OB-6 | Rev2 | TEO-5 | Pro 3 | SE-1X | Minitaur | Deepmind 12D | Slim Phatty | TR-1000 | Analog RYTM mk2 | Digitakt 2 | TD-3 MO | TD-3 | Maschine+

That's because it doesn't sound as good as Cubase or Live.

No it is not the most popular DAW among trance producers.

It's probably the most popular among the warez kiddies that post really bad trance tutorials all over Youtube though, almost always in combination with a skinned version of Sylenth.

Are you talking mainstream working people, or just KVR members?

if you asked somethign like, 'does fl studio have such and such features, then you would proably get a better answer. but your basicly asking, which daw can i buy which will make me a pro or feel like one. invest in tools and dont invest in daw confidence :)

My question is very clear, I'm not asking about features, but rather, popularity.

I see nothing odd about asking this on KVR.

If you don't have any thing helpful, then that's a different story !

Then cryophonik's reply has your answer. Add to that the fact that few music software makers are going to provide sales figures. Given these factors, how could anyone judge "popularity" in a meaningful way?

In other words: You won't find the answer here, and probably can't find it anywhere else either. Fortunately, the question isn't important. Use what works for you.

Most music devs are still privately owned hence trying to get sales figures is next to impossible...

I also suggest the same thing..use what works for you...

sorry dude, what i meant was, what evrybodys saying to you. use what works. doesnt matter if its 'popular' if you like it. then you like writing in it. when i was looking into what id like to do as a job, i remember i kept looking for the highest paying job. but the counselour said, 'whatever you choose, you will make money from. because you enjoy it. replace job with daw :)

I've seen mostly commercial (that is, people making money off their music) producers in Trance using Logic and some using Cubase

I'm not familiar with too many using Fruity Loops not to say there aren't any...

I see a lot of newcomers who use Fruity.. and I'm sure it is as powerful as it needs to be to write commercial Trance.. I simply don't see the slant towards it that you do.

Either way.. its already been said.. host is largely a host.. find the one that best fits YOU and use it..

The host software doesn't write the music.. it only plays back what you (the producer) input. Don't mistake knowing audio software for knowing music theory or genre specific technique with this theory.

Most hosts do basically the same. They just have a different GUI/workflow. It doesn't matter what others use, just use what works best for YOU :)

Cheers
