How do you like the soundtrack to Tron Legacy ?

Post

Nowhere near as good as the soundtrack to the original, though I did appreciate the cameo by Arp Latch.

I mean Daft Punk.

exactly what i thought it would be (daft punk doing their thing over zimmery strings <cough>arranged by someone else<cough>)

but works well imo, fits the movie and sounds good on its own.

Lots and lots of bitcrusher. Because, you know, that's what music sounded like in the '80s.

Post

Loved it. I was intrigued by the music over the end credits because if that was by them, I'd like to hear more.

I just watched the show tonight. According to Imageline, Derezzed came straight from a patch from their "Gross Beat" software, and they did a simple recreation of the bit that Daft Punk did. They show it and compare it on a video on their website.

Edit - I think this is the video:

Edit Number 2 - Here's a better link that does a side-by-side comparison.

So what if they did, it's still cool.

Half of the OST was actually not my cup of tea (the techno parts especially), but it fit the mood of the film. The ending is something you need to get used to, but hey... they tried to give you a stab at 8bit tunes from yesteryear again.

Looking at the music as "whole", it works for the film, not in all cases (bitcrusher), but most parts. I'm curious if they'll hire Daft Punk for Tron 3 as well.

I don't think that Wendy Carlos is dissapointed.

This is the track. It's called Finale (what else)
Pure orchestral. On a tangent, I've always wanted Rank One to do a soundtrack. I think he'd be brilliant.

I never said it wasn't cool. I just thought it was an interesting piece of trivia.

Sure is, and I'm surprised they didn't go for their glitchy, repeatative style as with "Discovery"; which was then made into the "Interstella 5555" anime.

I absolutely loved it. Not just because I'm biased ;)

I still think "Derezzed" is a bit overhyped, but it worked with the scene.

Anyway... three videos worth watching:

And for more "oldschool Tron":

I just wish they'd have not made the "Tron Legacy" game to be the official prequel. Without it, you're a bit lost. But then again... marketing.

I liked the music in the movie better than the movie itself!
