Not really I just figured I'd stir up some controversy.

Great idea, both the product itself, as well as the way to raise funds for it. I wish he'd do that for the Rock Controller too. Judging by the contribution levels, and the fact that $200 and above will receive one, I'm guessing Harvey is trying to keep the price point at $200-$300, which is great.

I agree with you on some points. I think we can consider the rock controller vaporware now. Those looking for a budget ztar will be more then happy with an itar. It may actually be the demize of ztars if you think about it. Body fabrication, internal hardware and operating system makes up the bulk of costs. One of the negatives about ztars through the years has been lack of internal sounds. Which I don't mind I'm happy with it as a controller but several others do. When entering the realm of internal sounds it's always love/hate with consumers. Giving users a wider selection of sound not linked to starr labs gets them off of both arguments (Not having any or dislike for sounds available)

I think it's a great idea but I'm not personally into it. And when you think about it. 300 for the accessory and z amount for the ipad puts the total price above that of the original rock controller projected price as I don't have an ipad and I really wouldn't need one for other purposes.

Very true, and it's not a good value if you don't already have an iPad, and/or you can't find other uses for the iPad personally.

But I do think Harvey is hitting on a far larger audience with this than he would have the RC, with likely a cheaper cost of entry. Very smart move, as the iPad (for better or worse) is far more trendy than music gaming is.

I do wish the RC wasn't relegated to vaporware, but I think you're likely correct on that one.

If I win the powerball I'll invest in rc turn key. The R&D is done, Harvey says he has factories lined up that will produce. He'd still need three things that can't be done at starr labs to make it a success. Start up capital, A warehouse/central packaging center and distribution chain. By my estimations you'd have to sell in the order of 20,000 units annually to support its distribution. Because you'd have a middleman and a retailer both wanting a slice of the pie you'd have to raise the price so everyone got there cut. Variax lost money for Line 6 which is why even the korean made Tyler models topple 1k and american models start around 3600.
