did that trick with the VSTAUManager and it worked, thanks. didn't pass Logic's validation though. I forced it anyways just to give it a try; nice synth. really easy to get sounds out of it too. had an interesting pad in seconds. never figured out the pre-sets thing though. made a folder in my documents and dropped the zips in, but it wasn't seeing anything but the fact that there was a zip there. what did I do wrong? pretty strange preset system.

Open any zip so it's a folder.
Make a new folder named "Synth1 presets"
Place it anywhere, (mine are in documents)
Open Synth1 in daw-click on the "OPT" button in the lower right.
The window opens, and choose "Browse" find your Synth1 preset folder, and enter.
Now any (un-zipped)folders of presets you have at that destination will be there.
I think you might have to reload synth1 after doing this though.
I used Live, and the vst.
I have Logic8 but haven't used any wrapper for it yet.
Hope it works

hi.

when loading synth1 into logic express 9.1.5 ( 10.6.8 ) and choosing a bank no sound is coming while playing the keyboard. logic is indicating the notes played... but still no sound from synth1.

what could be the problem?

Hi all - first post here.

Totally new to synthesis but long time musician of acoustic instruments. I can't seem to get Cubase LE 4 to recognize/find synth1. I'm running osx 10.5.8 .
Can anyone confirm that it runs under this OS version? Or perhaps incompatibility with Cubase LE 4? The vst file is installed in the correct place as far as I can tell. I can upgrade OSX but wanted to hold off until I get some opinions.

Thanks!

Avi

Hello and welcome to KVR.
I'm thinking it's only for 10.6 and up, as I have read some others who couldn't get it working in 10.5, but it's possibly just not working in Cubase.
Maybe try some freeware host, and see if it works in that.
Maybe try MuTools free here.
http://www.mutools.com/mulab-downloads.html
or Reaper (demo) here
http://www.reaper.fm/
If it works in any of those, than it's not compatible with Cubase.
If it doesn't work, than it's not compatible with 10.5

I'm afraid it's due to Leopard; I have Cubase Studio 4.5 (it should be the same code base as your LE version) on Lion and it works (but you have to use the "always on top" option to be able to click on Synth1's gui).
However try it with other hosts as suggested by mcnoone.

Thanks folks for the quick advice. Looks like an OS incompatibility because Reaper couldn't find it either. I ordered OSX 10.6

Until it comes, I can experiment with Zebralette. That one works with my os version.

Cheers
Avi

hmm, starting to get frustrated. followed the directions here, and was able to navigate to that folder, but apparently it is not seeing any of these files. you can see in the picture that they are all greyed out. anyone have any other ideas? maybe these don't work on a mac since all of the old skool presets for synth1 were for PC? has anyone else had this problem with Logic 9?

After you have 'found' the presets (using the opt menu to do so) you then just click on the name of the current patch or bank to bring up the patch list and choose a new preset.

I have Logic 8 but didn't use Synth1 with that rapper yet.
I just use the vst in Live.
Your doing something wrong though, if your trying to select the presets from that window.
You have to use the top window to click/highlight the first path, then click on the blue folder (Civilized Creation) there.
It should change the 1 slot path (in the upper window) to the path with that folder you just selected. Repeat this process going to the next slot/folder path and so on.
Then close that window, and click on the second preset bar below the preset name bar/window. It will open a window where you can choose from the many banks.
Click on a bank name an then on the gui to close it.
The preset name of the first will be on the top preset bar/window. Click on that to choose from many.

AHA, thanks (and to Ftech as well). i didn't realize that I was actually setting the path to where the files are. the only time I have ever had to do that before was setting up a DAW on a friends PC. i just went through and did them all so I don't have to deal with that again later (hopefully it will remember those paths).

thanks again.

are you guys having any stability issues at all? the synth sounds great, but about 50% of the time if I change a setting, I get this loud noise that sounds like a video game noise, and then no more sound. I have to restart Logic to get it working again. guess that's what happens when Logic refuses to validate something.

Yeah, the path setting is a bit weird but at least you only have to do it once for every new bank.

The synth seems stable in use for me, but I do occasionally get the loud noise then no sound issue you are experiencing, but I just option click on the synth in the inspector to reset it and that seems to work so far.....at least for me it does!
