Recommand MIDI knob box compatible with Rhino?

Argh! My lame-o PC-70 controller keyboard doesn't have what it takes to have multiple realtime controls that will run Rhino's knobs. I'm thinking of either a new controller (PCR-80) or a MIDI knob box. Does anyone have a recommendation/what does everyone use to control Rhino?

TIA for any help! :)

i use pcr-50. more knobs and sliders than I'll ever use. usually just the first three knobs are assigned.

i would also recommend energyXT for its envelope automation. one can assign an envelope (drawn or from a fixed number of selections) pattern to a given cc controller. works great esp. on Daniels' Morpheus bank

wrench: any chance you'd post a small audio example ? I'd love to hear that...

Shoot me down if I'm mistaken :) but I think the "compatible with Rhino" part of the question is redundant. Any midi knob box would send the requisite CC controllers to map into Rhino, surely?

Anyways,

Look into evolution audio and doepfer. Links below.

http://www.evolution.co.uk/products/index.html look at the UC-16 and UC-33

http://www.doepfer.de/home_e.htm There are 5 midi controllers here, all of which will do you a job.

Happy hunting and let us know what you decide and how it goes :)

Thanks for all the info! My PC-70 has a slider control that's assignable to many things - *none* of which are picked up by Rhino! Looks like my host is trapping 'em or something (like aftertouch, I'd love to have that be assignable but it doesn't want to work).

Now to wait until Payday.. lol!

Wooly,
Have you tried to assign it in Rhino / standalone ?
Rhino will pick up any control sent to it...

for being a so called computer professional I've never opened the 5 mb website that comes with my cable broadband sunscription and don't have a clue how to post an mp3 on a site if I did.

I've tried sending mp3 samples before by e-mail and haven't gotten one through yet, either too big or too secure or ???

but I will try one this weekend
but it might actually be easier if you picked up energyXT demo and tried out this one feature.
without documentation it takes a while to sort things out, but even then it's pretty straightforward. 15 - 30 minutes absolute max. Be a nice break from your rhino 2 coding/debugging.

you just place an envelope between Master in and rhino and select the cc control that rhino's 'learned' to control one of the master sliders, and select an envelope -- like fade in, fade out, sine or draw your own.

it's a very nice animated, truly automated effect, nice animation, and you can set the envelope to trigger on a note or free run or one other mode I can't recall. also can control the rate of the envelope change.

Hmm, I'll try it in standalone. In Orion Platinum *and* Tracktion, aftertouch seems to have no effect - at least in OPlat I can see the MIDI light flash so I know the controller is sending *something*.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm still going to replace this controller, 49 keys isn't enough for me any more (lol)!
