It's the best way to keep a product completly under control in such closed format as nexus is. And so all expansions are only available at one point, the same where nexus is available to buy - refx.com.

For a rompler plugin, they did it the concept perfectly i think.

But after Nexus3, i guess, there will coming more Nexus3 soundsets, like Plughuggers, through the deeper access on the controls. Which will be there a good addition to the official expansions.

Just out of interest, what sort of savings do ReFX do on Nexus in their Christmas sale?

Here's another great expansion released for Nexus2 by Rauschwerk

I haven't been the biggest Nexus fan in the past. But I have to say that Nexus absolutely delivers. Some of the expansions are just amazing. Also, as the documentation and the demos of the expansions are second to none, you absolutely get what you hear. No negative surprises. The update looks promising!

It's simple as that: Ask yourself, which one synth you would take on an lonely island.

I have bought shitloads of synths and effects over the last two years. without a second thought i would go "Nexus!". Someone named Sylenth - that's a nice one, but it does not even come close.
Finally!

On the first look this line sounds funny, but absolutely true :tu:
But, come on... if you going to an island and must choice one synth, would you really take nexus, instead of something like VirusTI? Zebra? Alchemy?

How would you like to spend there the time at best? Stepping forward and backward through the preset library in nexus, or creating your own sounds on a VirusTI?

Nexus because of overall usability. You wouldn't miss external effects, it has all those beautiful features that make life easier for me (like the arp lock, which some people do not even know about), it sits so great in my mixes, takes nearly no cpu and i could go on and on. did i mention the incredible arp, trancegate, that drums and sequences are included? layers?

Also with something like a virus you could never have the same results as with Nexus because of the samples - imagine lying under a palm tree programming a tune with the hollywood expansion.
Finally!

Yes with all the expansions i would.. making your own sounds becomes pretty boring after a while

When Nexus3 eventually comes out then it's time for many expansion packs by me haha.
Also if Nexus3 will be opener, you will defintive didn't have the change/possibility to edit ALL, or loading own new samples in there. Maybe a very deeper access as in Nexus2, but surely not the options as with the SD-version. Which is quite logical, would Nexus3 completly open, with expansion maker function etc, shortly after the release, a mass of 3rd party expansion would overrun the market, and surly a big amount of them would be bad, more worse as the official expansions. Which would automaticly colouring the quality-image of the product ifself negativ.
I'm not sure 3rd party expansions sets, expecially made by talented people like Rob or the dear Doctor would bring less quality than the factory content. Actually I just think the opposite

Imho it would merely means that people would broke the price pattern of Refx add on sound banks, and it would damage their own sales. They definitely dont have the marketing power of companies like NI to promote their own products in front of the scene.

And Dr Gonzo is right there are as much features on Nexus to sculpt sounds than on your average Polysix or Minimoog. So there's room for sound design. Its just that it seems that too few people are interested in making it. For example I think that Nexus owners would not be that interested by a classic/vintage soundset, so why bother to make one ?

As for the product itself, I only tried it at a friends who also have some dance oriented add ons, and well, I'd say its the perfect exemple of a rompler right targeted toward a specialised music genre : Dance, Tarnce and commercial dancefllor products. Note that I did not even say electronic music, cos electronic music is much much wider imho.

For every other genre of music, I did not had the pleasure you can get by playing some presets of the other uberrompler synthesizer ( Omni ), and tbh I think a Yamahe Motif, or KOntakt or Mach V 3 deliver much more ( yes they can also be seen as uber romplers )

Nexus doesnt try to be universal or versatile, it just tries to be the closest possible to the supposed needs of certain muscians/"producers". And it does it quite well. No matter if these stabs leads have been heard in many tracks, some will find them boring or expressivless, but for others its just the garanty they will have "this sound". Anyway there are just there for those who desire them.

Then I also think that many synths can deliver some good sounds for these genres, its just that in Nexus they are ready to play, and that you dont have to "extract" them from a more versatile sound library.( like trying to extract Dance patches from Kontakt for example )

Also the real time features are perfectly adapted to this genre ( Arps aso ) I think its really what afficionados are looking for. And the effects are OK too and well suited to these genres ( Tgate, Delays, etc ) And the UI I found very clear and pleasant. This also matters : Nothing to complicated.

So all in all, I keep thinking a GOOD synth can make GOOD instruments for every kind of music. But Nexus is really good for what it is intended for. In a -imho- limited range "as it is" ( so not "as it could be with different intentions" )

Ok I'm one of those "songwriters/composers who need quality sounds instantly"(but still want to tweak a bit :P ). I was very very impressed by the official audio demos(especially the main one) and am planning to get it during the year-end sale(it's about 40% off, isn't it?).

I don't make trance music at all( maybe I just didn't have the opportunity) but I use synths a lot and love Nexus sounds very much. In one word, they sound PROFESSIONAL. But it's just IMO.:)

My questions here are:

1. How many Nexus(es) do you use in a single project? Several? If so, do you find it a bit inconvenient to open it one by one every time you want to tweak? Do you dream of an 8 or 16 part multi-timbral Nexus? Do you think it's coming one day?

2. I love 80's drums so the Vintage Drum Kits expansion pack sounds good to me. In the demo track I hear some kits that I could not find in any other VSTis. But I'm wondering if each kit piece has its own volume/pan/filter/reverb control. Maybe not. I'd like to know.

3. The big photo on the Nexus 2 product page confused me when I first saw it(maybe it still does). What's that? Is there a hardware version of Nexus available? (I don't need it anyway  ).

Thanks!

Well you listened to the DANCE XPs, so you got Dance/Trance sounds I guess. That's well expected, innit? There is also Electro, Dubstep, Psytrance, Orchestra, Ambient and some very good XPs catering to the electronic music crowd (rauschwerk 1 + 2, analog, dark planet, nu electro, vocoder...).

I got an m3, triton extreme, radias, kontakt - Nexus sounds much better. The only weakness i can think of soundwise is choirs.

Well to put this topic all in one sentence it's really quite simple..

"Nexus2 does exactly what it says on the tin"

Sound wise and sheer usability it kills everything else straight out of the box
The expansions you get a wide range and the choices are down to the end user.
IMO it does a great job speaking as an ex owner of the software soon to be a new owner of Nexus2 x64 on December 1st :D
