Is this possible to do (on Windows)?
-- install the Rhino program into C:\Program Files\Big Tick\Rhino\...
-- install the Rhino VSTi into C:\VST Plugins\synths\FM\...
-- install the Rhino data folder into F:\Documents\Big Tick\Rhino\...
-- install the Rhino shortcuts into C:\Documents and Settings\DarkStar\Start Menu\Programs\Music\Big Tick\Rhino2\...
Then create the ".Rhino2" file in the root of the C:\ drive where Rhino is installed, pointing to the data folder on the F:\ drive.
If so, what do I need to do?
-------------------------
Suggestion:
Rather than having to put the .Rhino2 file in the drive's root folder, I think that it would be better (and tidier and less likely to upset Windows 7) if the file were in the same folder(s) as the Rhino2 standalone .exe and the VSTi .dll files. (In the same way that u-he does it for Uhbik.)

Hi, yes it would work. Don't use shortcuts, though, as I'm not certain they will be followed by anything else but windows explorer. Instead, create a junction using this.
Alternatively, you could simply move your Rhino data folder to F:\...
and then change the path in the registry accordingly, at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BigTick\Rhino2\path
You don't need the .Rhino2 file unless you want to use a portable installation.

Thank you for the info
By the "shortcuts" I meant those put in the Start menu, nothing else.
I'm doing this to keep the data folder out of the way of the Program Files (especially for Windows 7) folder and the plugins folder (to keep scan times down).

Well, with the default install, they are all separated already:
- C:\Program Files\BigTick\Rhino contains nothing but the standalone
- The vst goes anywhere you want
- The data folder is in C:\Documents and Settings\...

Ah ha, that could be OK - I must have misunderstood things.
I did not see this bit ( i was looking at the .pdf manual, rather than the overview web page):

Ah, yes... updating the manual is another task I've been postponing for too long

On my Win7 system, I don't have 'Documents and Settings'. There's users\my name\my documents, which is where most programs (e.g. Ableton Live) put app data, but I don't see a Big Tick entry. So I'm not sure where to put the key file.Big Tick wrote:Well, with the default install, they are all separated already:
