What's NI's stance on license transfers? Another reason I passed on Komplete last year was the spate of negative reviews I've read about NI support, so I'm not sure if I want to get into license issues. But if NI handles it seamlessly, i certainly don't mind saving a few bucks...

I've transferred from and transferred to licenses with Native Instruments in the past couple of years.. zero problems in my experiences. NI support was really supportive in assisting me.

I love Absynth. I guess people that like to, are used to, turning knobs won't like the GUI. I did a lot of programming on the DX7 and am used to defining things in terms of ratios so I like it.

in the envelopes part of the interface, there is for me unnecessary redundancy, defining in numbers what you can do with the graphical, but I can ignore it. The breakpoint envelopes and defining waveforms by partials are favorite tools for me.

One of my favorites.

Very easy to program once you understand the flow. Great for pads, pulses, rhythmic designs.. also, simple things like kick drums and sub basses. I love the envelope system and the ease of use. Being able to load my own sample and twist and shape, love it. :thumbs up:

Be sure to use it as an FX insert too!

I demoed Absynth a lot, but I don't like its muted sound.
A sample full of sparkle and life sounds hollow/wooden and muted when Absynth plays it back unprocessed. If you like its sound, there's really a lot of possibilities with this plugin.

The GUI is okay, the green color reminds me of that wicked liquor, a bit mysterious I would say, goes well with the sounds it spit out.

Love Abs. Love the mutate button and the Aetherize effect. No problems sitting in the mix. You need a cut thru lead/bass. It's there. You need a weird soundscape/texture. There. you need an achingly beautiful pad. Ditto. There's usually one instance of Absynth in every track I make.

To me it's a bit like Reaktor in that I really should dedicate some time to learning it far deeper than I do. I tend to tweak presets but I know there's a lot more to it than I know.

I have plenty of love for absynth. I doubt you hear much jumping for joy and shouting from the rooftops since it's been around for years and years.

There is no difference with a sample played straight from absynth's oci unprocessed. That's misleading.

Well, to my ears there was a lot of difference between the 'raw' samples as played by my DAW and the way they sounded when I used them in Absynth (unprocessed).
I just loaded the samples in Absynth and the difference was obvious. When I loaded the same samples in my energyXT-synthesizer, they sounded just fine.

Time to get them ears checked then... Seriously , listen to this example, a tremelo guitar, raw from my DAW, cubase and through absynth's oci. You tell me you can hear a difference?

Yeah, it's easily addressed though, there is a box with the output, which by default is 0.4 dB. I don 't get how the heck they come up with that, but you type in, say, 6 there... wait, you may mean something else. I mangle samples in there as a matter of course, so I haven't noticed a sample being less present or something.

I will take a listen to your example this evening.

But you see, my impression with Absynth was that it generally sounded muted/wooden. I tried a lot of the presets and I also tested Absynth by making some sounds myself (not using samples) and I always felt that the sound missed some air.

I understand that a lot of people really enjoy this plugin and the way it sounds - well, that is just great. I wish I felt the same, because I would rather have more choices than fever.
