It's getting near the point where you buy an iPad to host your VI's- and dock it into a physical controller (if/when needed). I can imagine someone just getting an iPad to run this synth on it's own- cheaper than getting a physical Moog don't you think? I can imagine someone doing a great DIY project like the OMG-1 from Spectraonics. Get a decent compatable controller, ipad, and house them in a nice wood cabinet- all to run this synth. Why the heck not!

Just wanted to add that, while I think this is a great synth and the current price offer is unbeatable, I disagree with the notion that this sets the new standard. This does sound very good, but lets not overlook the fact that there do exist other excellent synths for ipad, like Sunrizer (my personal favorite), ims-20, NLog Pro, Addictive Synth etc.

I definitely disagree with the notion "The first professional Synth for the iPad" that it's being marketed with (although even the maker of Animoog disagrees with that, see thread above). Especially the four you mention are excellent synths and very professional. But all those look very much like VSTs that already exist. Animoog manages to implement some truly new ideas and ways to take advantage of the unique touch control features of the iPad that I haven't seen before, while also sounding brilliant. Therefore 'a new standard' is not so far off, I think, or 'the bar has been raised' is perhaps more correct, especially in relation to some other big companies that've recently launched new apps, like IK and NI, that were pretty disappointing, IMO, considering what they are capable of.

Can someone please enlighten me? I have this kind of existencial doubt:

Why is people always questioning the quality of the Virtual Instruments that appear in Windows/Mac, comparing them with the hardware and systematically telling that they simply "aren't like the real thing", and suddenly become crazy about these gizmos that appear for iPad, that do only a fraction of what the above mentioned do?

I am feeling like I have returned to the "vinyl vs CD" discussions, when people ended up buying MP3 files at 128 and find that as the new standard in quality.

There are all kinds of people, the ones who compare VAs to hardware are prolly different people than the ones who bought this iPad app!

I'll tell ya what, I wish I were rich and could afford an iPad right now...

As long as data exchange is as cumbersome and restricted as it is I too fail to see a new standard. I just moved to IOS5 / iCloud so I hope data losses due to iTunes sync problems are a thing of the past. It could be so easy If only one could just use IOS devices as USB drives...
On topic: I just got Animoog as well as Filtatron - which is reduced in price as well for 30 days. I look forward to testdriving these Moog babies!

+1! Filtatron is on sale for .99, too. Reduced temporarily (I think) for an iOS5 bug; but they've released an update for that today. Get Filtatron for .99, too! Moog apps are awesome, indeed.

For fmr.... If you are not an iOS user and fan, then go to the forum that has the tools you actually use. We like our iOS products and enjoy them. We couldn't care less if you do. Why would you read this forum anyway? It makes no since.... I have VSTi on a computer and have used them over 10 years, but time marches on. Cling to the past if you want, but don't try to limit others to your mindset. In another 10 years....who knows!

Moog has done a fantastic job with this one. I think Bob would be proud. Rather than just clone an existing hardware interface they've taken advantage of the iPad's touch screen to do something new and very musical.

My 5 year old is jamming on this, loading presets and mucking around with the xy pad. The only problem is... I don't know if I will get it back lol.

fmr just makes a point. I am not sure who you mean when you say WE. But saying "go somewhere else if you are not an IOS fan" certainly reveals a certain attitude.

just out of curiosity (don't have an iPad, so I'm not actually going to use this): is the "new Anisotropic Synthesis Engine (ASE)" somewhat similar to vector synthesis (eg. Prohpet VS), or are we talking about something completely different?
