Yea, I completely agree that the interface on this is quite awesome, and really makes sense in terms of the ipad.
However, I fail to see a new standard here too. Addictive synth is one example of a synth that has an interface designed to take advantage of the way the ipad works. To some extent, I guess, the kaosspads on the ims-20 do too. Alchemy mobile is also pretty good in this regard. Now that is something that could end up being truly groundbreaking, if camel audio open up synth tweakability in a future update.
Anyway, its hardly a relevant topic, since even if Animoog is not ground-breaking, it is still a very useable tool, and that is what matters. Some ppl will find it ground-breaking, and others won't, and thats that. Hardly something worth discussing.

"Moog has pushed its new Animoog as the "first professional synthesizer designed for the iPad". Really, Moog? Over the past year-and-a-half, we've seen some pretty polished contenders for the same title, including synths from Korg and VirSyn. To make such a claim smacks of the same sort of dubious marketing practices that ARP once employed to shake Moog's position at the top of the hardware synth market. It leaves a bad taste in our mouths and is, frankly, insulting to fellow iOS developers who have worked hard to provide the highest quality products for the platform."

Incredibly expressive synth, to the point I actually prefer the onscreen keyboard to an external one. So I'm trying to set this up with Logic via CoreMidi (wifi) and so far I can receive notes in it but not record them, even though it should support MIDI Out. Anyone gave this a go?

Looks like it won't do MIDI out, which is a bummer because the MIDI keyboard is one of the best I have found :(

Also, filter cutoff has stepping at high resonance! It's surprising to get a filter behave like that in a MOOG product.

And here comes the idiots complaining it doesn't sound like a REAL Moog.

Brilliant bit of marketing by Moog. First of all, the instrument itself is gorgeous - then this 99 cent deal for a month, and then the icing on the cake, that arrogant tagline about the first professional synth. The only thing they could have done to garner more outraged dialogue is release a sex tape.

I think that control is intended to set a range, then you assign filter modulation to the XY pad or poly pressure (vertical position on "keys"). But it would be nice if they got rid of the steppiness in an update.

@~Pd~ Yeah it's a small glitch. On the positive side, the MIDI keyboard is brilliant. Hope it gets MIDI Out soon.

I don't know if it's the first "professional synth" for iOS or not, and dont really care; for .99 cents it's a friggin' blast. And I'm not even a keyboard player, just a guitarist.

Is this compatible with either the iRIG MIDI or L6 Midi Mobilizer II?

It has MIDI In, so I think so, you can send notes and it will play them like I'm doing now with Logic. It won't send MIDI (at least for now).

Well done
I was going to post the same thing- my 8 year old just took this synth. She loves the display and making all the funky paterns when she plays the keys. Love that this can be an educational tool as well- good on Moog!!

I really got some cool stuff going last night with my crappy nanokeys plugged in via the camera connection kit. I was able to do some simple arppegiated groves in the base line and then do wild leads using the ipad touch keys- what a brilliant toy. I wish there was some added recording funcationality. WOuld love to integrate this into my studio more (and the idea of midi out via wifi in Logic sounds awesome). I wonder if there will be added presets for those of us who suck at creating new sounds :)

They could add some way to route audio as well so one could sync and record with Logic.

Actually there should be a standard around this. I'm sure the Logic guys have thought about it. Also, Apple does consider your feedback and suggestions: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
