These videos require PG rating! They're pure DAW sex!!trancema wrote:monkeymanx wrote:Upgraded. S1 Pro replaced Cubase for me. This is the one DAW that feels like Cubase if that makes any sense. Downloading now, hopefully get to give it a decent test run. I didn't notice any mention of being able to freeze tracks.
watch these two videos
OK so far I only miss 2 things: pitch automation for audiotracks (waves Soundshifter to help) and free routing - which are not essential but nice to have, it's still pure awesomeness in it's current version

edit, I made my decision........producer does everything I need AND comes with the melodyne trail.
Good enough! The whole reason I bought the artist 20.11 version was to get this upgrade path. If I want the MD integration, then it's another 199. Done!

Cool. The only I'm thinking of would be automation of a relevant CC but it's PITA from my perspective.LawrenceF wrote:I think I can work this out for you. If I can I'll post the solution back.bronxsound wrote:I personally struggle with lack of MIDI track for hardware. Ie there's no dedicated type of track for a hardware instrument. Thanks for this. I have sort of figured this out already. Thing is that I have few synths on a same audio channel (via summing mixer). So it's a partial solution. In my view CC automation would work better, but again it's painful when you work in "multi" on a synth. Anyway I believe it could be an issue addressed at some point for the dev. As well as cuing precount.LawrenceF wrote:Ok... here's what seems to be best case. This assumes your hardware midi devices are plugged into dedicated hardware inputs. 1. Make a new bus channel in the mixer and insert Pipeline on it.
2. Set the Return on Pipeline to the inputs where your midi hardware is plugged in.
3. Turn the "Offset" knob on it fully left and turn the "Mix" knob fully right.
4. Name the bus channel in the mixer after your hardware synth.
4. Drag that mixer channel into the browser to make a new preset.
Now all you have to do just before producing with that hardware synth is to drag that preset into the mixer for the audio return. It will always use the same input(s) that the inserted Pipeline plug is receiving on.
If you have a hardware synth with 8 outputs or something, make 4 channels set to 4 pairs of stereo inputs or whatever, you can drag all four presets in at the same time the same way.
As to track midi controls, you can bring those out yourself with automation, without actually turning automation on. Bring out volume, pan, whatever you need to the track panel and you'll have a slider there for sending CC data to the hardware.

In september presonus annouced upgrade for 99$ from artist v1 to pro v1. Looks like this is not valid anymore. Do you guys know anything about it?
If I upgraded to s1 pro v1 I would be able to upgrade now to professional for 99$ only
In fact I was hoping to do that and wait till the end of october and suddenly v2 came out and that previous offer disappeared. Now I can upgrade to only producer for 99$. I would really like to utilize melodyne but now 299$ upgrade from artist is too much for me...

Lots of reasons but one of the main ones is I use a lot of ambient and semi generative instruments (ie generative within limits but with an element of interactivity) like variants of Metaphysical Function where it would be pointless to try and record directly to midi/host automation like I would with a regular instrument and where there would be no data to bounce or freeze. I can of course use a plugin like Edison to record such things in any host, and sometimes just do that, usually when I do it's in Kore though and when I do it in a DAW it's usually nice to be able to just record directly into a track as I can in Reaper already. There are other reasons too - for example I often record direct to audio and midi at the same time as automation fails to be 100% perfect in most hosts and I like to capture spontaneity.Amberience wrote:I want to ask this question with all due respect, and lack of provocation. This is more to satisfy my curiosity, and not to wind you up.aMUSEd wrote:It just makes it hard for me to decide whether to upgrade though - I got burned enough by the Sonar X1 upgrade recently with them deciding to make a basic feature that should have been in it from the start something that required me to pay twice for.LawrenceF wrote:I think - given what they've just pushed out and checked off the list - it's probably easily the #1 feature request now and I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the relatively early 2.x cycle.aMUSEd wrote: Damn, I was told by Jonathon something along these lines would be coming. Free routing should have been a no brainer.
They're really just getting started with the 2.x cycle so there is (per Jon) more stuff to come in what is in his words... "... a brand new phase for us."
They were (apparently) kinda working with that "fall" deadline for release so I can imagine there is probably some cool stuff on the table 70-80% done that didn't quite make it in 2.0.1.![]()
But... why exactly does it have to be that you route an instrument into an audio track? I just don't quite understand. In the render window, you can choose an instrument buss to render down, and import to a track. Or you can now right click on an instrument track and choose "render instrument track" which will retain the settings in the cache, so you can recall the instrument and insert effects.
So I guess I'm just looking to understand what it is you want to do?
