My simple delay does not have a width setting for panning. On a snare sound, for example, I use to create a subtle "ghost" snare, which I don't want to be panned wide away from the dry sound. I widen the sound back up again with a ilttle reverb on a send. Although having the utility as a plug (rather than a channel setting) allows you to put anything after you change the width, which is a nice feature.

i just love this "competition"

this really helps me to set certain limitation and focus on sharpening my skills and techniques. and i can really go deep down and tweak something out of a soft synths rather than browse through all the presets.

this competition totally changed my point of view towards freeware. it can be as powerful as other paid softwares as long as we utilize it to its full potential.

15 days until dateline.

Cheers for entries guys, sounds good :)

Agree a straight mono tool is a DAW feature more than an effect so should be fine, but of course the type that sums up and makes mono certain frequencies like bass must like all other effects be free and easily available to all.
Here's an example of that:

I submitted a short track "Charlatan in the Rain." I plan to work on at least one more track but not sure if it will be done in time.

This track contains:

7x Charlatan
2x Magnus Ambience
1x Kjaerus Classic Delay
2x Freeverb
1x RS-MET EngineersFilter
1x Studio Units low pass follower
1x Magnus Compressor
1x W1 Limiter

I tried to preserve the raw feel of the synth while only using effects that would add more balance and interest to the mix. Any critique on the track is welcomed.

I didn't see complaints when it was done last month. Given that you can submit multiple entries, doesn't seem like a problem to just update one already submitted.

No! You can not! if you made a demotrack 1 minute lenght, that's all what you can participate!! :x

I was kidding. :hihi:

Of course you can improve, modify, reupload submissions. Always before the deadline :)

Be aware that you will lost all comments in SoundCloud player in case you have not a premium account. Besides that minor "problem"...

And also, ensure to post that you reuploaded the new version, so people can download the last version possible.

Have a good day and good luck :)

PD: Maybe i'm out from this contest, i have much work to do this month and not enough time for everything.
I would like to finish all that i have pending.
-A Vangelis alike demotrack for a payware synth.
-An aggressive dubstep track.
-An alike "commercial" hit track :hihi:
-A couple of betatests.

Anyway, i will try it. I composed something with Charlatan, but i really don't like the structure, so making another arrangement will be a pain in the ass.

Have a good day pals. :)

I know how you feel mate, they rarely sound as good in the cold light of day, and in a state of sobriety! I will be doing another mix of my track. Going to leave it a couple of days though and come back fresh.

Haha, so true.

EDIT: I've been working on an electric piano style patch a bit. Here's a sample of what it sounds like currently (with mild reverb added) http://www.mediafire.com/?jbfwfj9jikk69u9

Why is this a problem with every DAW? It seems like one of the most common things to do... rearranging. I've used Cubase, Reaper, Live and none of them make it 'easy' to rearrange a track. Anyone know of something better or a good way of accomplishing with Reaper?

Post

Well Cubase has a nice arranger track, now something similar has been made for Reaper too: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=70387

But that's just for playback etc, for more permanent rearrangements, make a time selection and hit shift-r to make a region, then move that by dragging its green bar (or copy by holding down ctrl).

Did you use Session View a lot in Live, or the traditional Arrangement View? I like Session View (and especially clip automation), but it also seems to drive you more towards loop-based arrangements. I'm learning some tricks to overcome that, but it's a double-edged sword.

Good luck :)

Yeah, I'm familiar with those (except the Reaper plugin, looks interesting); they are okay for repeating/moving sections, but have never made my life easy for really rearranging something, don't work for transitions and such; I guess that's just the nature of the beast.

Yep, familiar with the clip view but I couldn't ever figure out how to get the arrangement to jive well with it - either making loops (which *is* pretty great) or making a song, not so much both.

Anyway, thanks - felt Irion's pain and more curious what other people do for this, I guess.

z.prime - into the line

An emotional, melodic, beat-laden track.

Tracked in REAPER, mostly in elementary OS.

All patches created from scratch by me... probably should have at least listened to some presets, but it didn't load a bank by default so... ;)

Used Instruments:
Charlatan (25 instances)

Used FX:
Cockos ReaPlugs (ReaFIR,ReaEQ,ReaDelay,ReaComp,JS:Transient Pan,Limiter)
Dasample GlaceVerb

Comments and feedback welcome.

Enjoy!
