Hello,
I will be buying an iPad 2 soon and since there are three RAM sizes available, I was wondering which would be appropriate. 16, 32 or 64 GB.
I am not planning to use it too much for music production (more for my dayjob), but it would be nice to have Garageband, iRig and maybe a couple other music apps. The usual other office and entertainment apps, some Navigation, some games and books, music and videofiles.
How much RAM do such apps usually need ? And the orher stuff ?
Should I go for 64 Gb or is 32 enough ?
any help in this decision from some experience ipad users is greatly appreciated, thank you !

What your talking about is nothing to do with RAM. The 16,32 & 64 is the storage on the device. The RAM amount is fixed whether you have an IPad 1 or the 2 which has more.
No, that Glitch is meant to be there.....

What Grain said. The system spec is exactly the same for all models apart from the storage. I have the 16GB iPad 2 and to be honest it's plenty of space for me. I've got stacks of Apps, quite a few albums, book, hundreds of high quality photos from my DSLR etc. I've only used about half the space available so I'm more than happy with 16GB. If your planning on dumping your entire music collection on the iPad or loading it with a lot of video then you will be better off with more storage. But if you just want to mainly use Apps then 16GB is fine

Most stuff will be in the cloud soon (your music, pictures, etc.) so I'd recommend 16 GB unless you want to record lots of audio or video with it. Then buy the highest you can afford.

i got 64 and some of the good games take up much space, so i only have 11 free right now. would buy the 64 version again, just for this reason.
Finally!

thanx fopr the input so far !
Sorry for mixing up RAM and storage.
iCloud, yes, I had not considered that.
I won't have much music mp3's on it.
I was thinking that maybe recordings from Garageband take a lot of space, or some videos and I heard that navigation software can be several GB of data.
So far I guess 32 GB should be sufficient, of course any more input from iPad users is very welcome

I have an iPad 2 64 GB with over 200 apps and I've only used up about 5 - 10 GB. I would recommend getting the highest storage you can get. I doubt I'll have mine filled anytime soon.

I've had a 32GB iPad 1 for a year now. I have about 300 apps installed, all the music making apps I could think of among them and I have 15 GB free still. Most apps don't take any space at all, for example the new Animoog Synth is 5,4 MB..
Most navigation apps seem to be around 500MB - 1.5 GB so you'll have plenty of space for some videos and mp3s as well. Recordings from Garageband don't take that much and you can always export them. The only thing that really eats space is Hi-def graphics games so if you plan to have many of those you might need more space.

Is there a technical reason why apple products aren't compatible with SD cards? This seems to be such an easy fix to the storage limitations that iPhone/iPad users inevitably bump up against.
I know that built in obsolescence is a marketing motivator, but still, the ability to double your capacity with a card would really make these things much more practical.
Just sayin'.

I got the 64GB version and after loading apps, music, guitar pro (+tabs) backing tracks, a few guitar instructional vids, some PDF's etc etc.. well I still have 30gb left...
Get as much as you can IMO but in saying that, if all you are going to do is chuck some music on and play some games the 16gb will suit most.

Part of my job is selling Apple and I get this question all the time. I would tell you that you will likely find more uses for an iPad once you get one. Also, they will come out with a new model next year. That new model will likely interest you and give you serious gear envy. Go with a 16gb but add the camera connection kit and a case that is rugged and can stand up the iPad in landscape mode. Take the extra money you saved over a 32 or 64gb iPad and look at getting a core audio compatible controller to run the iPad. Next year, you may want to upgrade and will know if you really need more storage.
