free ns7 Kit -- Too big for 512mb RAM?

I'd like to know how many here are having difficulty running the free ns7 kit in Battery. I load it into Battery and have nothing but trouble. First of all, I get the prompt: "Patch uses 484mb memory. Load kit anyway?" This seems absurd that it would hog that much memory. I have 512mb DDR RAM. If anyone else here is running it with only 512mb problem free, please let me know. I'd hate to have to get 1gig just because this kit won't run. Everything else in my host (Cubase SX) runs fine.

Thanks!

Haven't tried it in Battery but I gave up on the soundfont version in LiveSynth. I have 512mb in the laptop and just found it made everything too sluggish.

Is there a direct-from-disk option in Battery? That might work better.

Cheers,
Phil

I only have 512MB DDR and it loaded and played fine in kontakt/Sonar,but since I didn't like the kit,I never investigeted further when it came to using it in a project with other VSTi/tracks/plugs ect.

My apologies, after scanning these forums I now realize there's a new NS kit.I was refering to the older one.

Alan, I'm curious to know what you think of the new NS Kit? I'd also like to know if you know of a better free kit available on tht internet.

Yeah , I found this out the hard way trying to convert the Battery kit in DR008 (I thought it was a problem with the DR008 import, but actually, I just ran out of memory and DR008/SONAR died). I wouldn't have minded but I was quite unimpressed with it when I did get it loaded - I've still yet to hear a set of samples that sound like pwerful rock drums (my old Alesis D4/DM5 still sound better for acoustic simulations to my mind).

get the soundfont version and use it with sfz (direct from disk mode).

Or download the .wavs and build your own kit cutting out some of the velocity layers to trim the size.I use acoustic drums for rock so rarely use the softest velocity layers. There is another acoustic kit right here in the Banks/Patches section in the Battery area called Franky D Kit.I really like the sound of those samples. Also there is a free D4 soundfont out there. You could strip the samples out of it and build your own kit from them. :D

It's the best free kit I know... Much better than the previous versions.

Here is a snippet of one of my tracks featuring the nskit7: http://www.powerjams.de/nskit7snippetfrompsynus.mp3
WinXP * CubaseSX3 * Intel Core2Duo6800 * 2GB RAM * M-Audio 24/96

i haven't tried it out very much, but i have loaded it and played it on my 640 Mb RAM laptop without any noticeable problems.

...in battery, of course.

I just now noticed there was a new version,so I didn't have a chance to download it yet, plus in antother thread everyone claims the server is down or the file was pulled so I'll wait for that to get sorted out.As far as the old kit is concerned, even though I thought it was too dull sounding,it was probably one of the better free kits around.I wound up sampling my old HR-16,SR-16 and the drums from my Korg in addition to some one-shot samples included in some loop disks I bought along with some freeware samples I collected, chose the best of the lot and created my own kit for the DR-008.I tend to like a very powerful sounding natural kit,and while the old NS kit was ok it doesn't compare with what I put together myself,at least for my taste anyway.

That was a month ago. Douglas posted in that thread when the updated SF2 was published a week or so ago. Then someone pointed out the hats didn't choke properly. That's fixed too.

(The other) thread title really needs fixing! :-)
