Getting audio into my MOTU 828 mark 2 from my iPad

As the title says how is the best way to get audio from my iPad apps into my MOTU so I can use them in stuff like Ableton Live - Would you recommend the Alesis dock or some other way ?

Cheap way- 1/8 inch headphone to 2 RCA with 1/4 inch adapters.
