Doubt about a singing "technique"

Chords, scales, harmony, melody, etc.

Hi.

Well, i was listening to this

And i find that the guy uses a lot these hi pitched breathy "things" at the end of each phrase. Like in the "I made it obvious that i want you toOH" "lets remove the space between me and yoUH" or something like that. The song is filled with that (and some awkard auto tuned "vibrato" in some parts i think).

That thing has a name? Its some form of falsetto goin up only in those parts?

Im sure i've heard it before, its probably widely used.

(pardon the question if its too dumb, im clueless in these things, i only know m and M chords and making inversions out of them lol )

It is just Melodyne / Autotune AFAICT

Not a real vocal technique I'm afraid...

EDIT: I just realised what you were refering to and realised we are talking about different parts of the song! I was refering to the intro vocals which are autotuned but I just realised you are talking about the main verse and that annoying thing he does at the end of each line. Yeah that is a singing technique it is really easy to do but it is easier to overdo! I think it is Diana Vickers from X-factor who really did it a lot so you could google some of her videos and hear it clearly.

IMO that technique should only be used very sparingly and not every line in a verse but each to their own I suppose.

Sorry about the confusion BTW ;)

: / I think you're right. Sounds like auto tuned pitched breath or something like that. The track is filled with fck ups of auto tune now that i noticed it.

Anyway, there is some deliberate release of air i think, i sampled the two words, http://k003.kiwi6.com/hotlink/xwue0ly4a6/sample.wav

You can hear that "TooAH" "YouAH" it almost sounds as if it was added with an editor.

That's not from a plugin. I think it's more like running out of breath, on purpose.

Its a singing technique. He drops his support from his diaphragm at the end of the phrases to make his voice break like that

Aha! interesting. Thanks a lot for clarifying that :)

That technique has a name or its just "breaking the voice in a musical way" ?

not sure if it has a name in english, but you hear the technique in country music, folk music etc etc.. but enrique is kinda doing it his own personal way... which you would expect from a singer of his calibre :)
