Att'n Developers: Rent Your Plugins

I firmly believe renting plugins is the way forward.
Humans are creatures of habit. Give me a taste of a plugin for a couple months and you can be sure i'll buy it. Demo's allow this but the timeframes are not long enough to develop habits.
They could be rented for say $20 per month (dependant on the plugin obviously). This would firmly put them in the no brainer territory. Then when the time for renewal arrives, you offer say 75% of the rental expense toward the final purchase price.
It's easy enough to do. Current products allow timed demo restrictions, and the rental products would be identical in theory.
Discuss.

And if you rent the Demo and don't like the plugin? The Dev has your money for a product you don't even want or will ever use......-1 to this idea.........

Where did I say rent a demo?
You would demo the product first.
Then the demo period expires but you still want more so you rent it.
Honestly it's not that difficult.
You need me to draw you a picture???

I think you're on to something important but i don't think renting is the answer. The demo restriction in U-He ACE and the Uhbiks is brilliant.
You can use them and develop a habit on the demos. The crackles aren't annoyingly high. It should be just loud enough for you to have a reason to purchase but low enough to make you want to use it over and over. That his stuff is killer doesn't hurt obviously. There seems to be an almost ridiculous amount of thought put in those plugins on every conceivable level.

In the more than decade I've been using plugins I've never had a Demo period expire before I decided whether or not I wanted to purchase a product. Usually it takes less than an hour before I decide..... you either want to purchase a product or not.......renting it makes absoulely no sense unless you just want to use the plugin for one project, render it and not have to pay full price for the plugin. I see no advantage to the Developer. Not to mention the work keeping track of who's renting, having to code in some type of system where a plugin times out if the rental period expires etc etc.........

You put forth the idea....it's up to you to sell it which you haven't done in the least bit...... the idea simply does not make sense.Mushy Mushy wrote:I bet you did extremely well in your high school debates with arguments like that.

The more i think about it the more i like, maybe nut such a bad idea after all.
The price should be low enough for it to not really matter. 20 $ is perhaps a bit high,i'm thinking 5-10 $ but that obviously depends on how much money one has. Says something about my finances if nothing else.
And it should be slightly awkward to renew it. Make them think:"Ahh what the heck,i'll just buy the damn thing" every month.
You could be on to something.

Depends on the price of the plugin to buy also as to what price might seem reasonable.jupiter8 wrote:The more i think about it the more i like, maybe nut such a bad idea after all.
