Why not?
There must be a developer or two interested in this...

Good idea, but I doubt the user base i s large enough to make this an option yet..... but who knows, maybe a developer will see your post and get the idea!

I don't think we're gonna see it anyday, since all the ios apps are sold thru the app store, which is run by Apple not the developpers.
On the other hand, price drops are common in the app store.

Most music apps cost between 99 cents and 20 bucks. They're already well below typical "group buy" prices.

Hahahaha, yeah sign me up for a group by on a 5 dollar product!
50 people :$4.00
100 people: $3.00
200 people: $2.00
300 people: $1.00
500 people: 50 cents.
Something like that?
Or maybe we could get those 1 dollar apps down to about 10 cents with enough people!

There are some apps though that really would benefit from such a groupbuy I think.
Konkreet Performer ($24.99) http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/konkreet ... 18467?mt=8
V-Control Pro ($49.99) http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/v-contro ... 23823?mt=8
are two that come to mind, that if they halved their prices I would definitely get.
And Fairlight Pro maybe, and there's some other pretty expensive ones that look really good. They are all probably worth their asking prices but in the continous stream of new cheaper and very good apps that keep coming, you shell out a lot of money anyway and tend to wait with the more costly ones.

I see ignorance is strong in this one. What is it with iOS and this behavior...Echoes in the Attic wrote:Hahahaha, yeah sign me up for a group by on a 5 dollar product!

It is that easy: It is not possible!
Cannot be done with the Apple AppStore. Developer cannot control to whom the app is sold, so, there is no way to lower the price for specific person ... obviously. (well, at least not for non business customers ... but there an app has to be US$ 9.99 or so ...)

Or, I was thinking, arrange a group buy and when say 300 people sign up they just lower the price for a couple of days or a week, (yes everyone will be able to buy at that price for a limited time but the developer will be guaranteed a certain amount of sales which might be an incentive for a price drop) and it will generate interest and talk about the app, especially for those pricey apps like the ones I mention above.Insaniac wrote:No way to utilize promo codes?
I think that the number of promo codes you're allowed to give out is quite limited, not sure though. Plus I think they have to be free give-aways, not price reductions.

I think the prices of iOS apps are already insanely low. Software seems to have no value anymore these days.

Is this a joke? Music apps on iOS are already under priced. Animoog sounds better than most commercial synths that cost over 100$ and it was $.99.

That's no ignorance. I don't own a iPad, iPhone or whatever but how expensive are the "expensive" apps? 50$?Insaniac wrote:I see ignorance is strong in this one. What is it with iOS and this behavior...Echoes in the Attic wrote:Hahahaha, yeah sign me up for a group by on a 5 dollar product!

Sorry but someone worked hard to code these apps.
As I said before. Software has no value anymore. Everything has to be available for free or for 3$. Really sad.

There are some expensive apps around.
iMS-20
Fairlight
Soundprism Pro
And I see now that in my country's app store, iMS-20 costs $43 ($33), and Fairlight $65 ($50).

Developers are not going broke by coding an app and selling it for $50 or $5.Bronto Scorpio wrote:That's no ignorance. They are making money.
And currently there are no music apps with the same quality, functionality, or development costs, as their PC equivalent.
