another shot with all my mess, it's funny how much bigger it is than the egnater and the of course the Frenzel is sitting on top of the jet city for now...I got some organizing to do
BTW the yellow jackets do fit, they make the tubes much taller so that was a concern (they do sell shorty YJs). At this point the YJs I have now are going to stay in the egnater. I did try them, I do like them but the jet city is class AB fixed bias so it will take the other type of YJs which work with fixed or cathode bias amps (the egnater is cathode bias) so I am getting a set of YJs for fixed bias and will switch them between the boogie and jet city. The good thing is the cathode biased ones have a ground wire that needs to be connected to the tube socket mounting screws and the fixed bias ones do not need the ground wire so switching between the boogie and jet city will be a breeze.
As far as how the amp sounds (the jet city), it's pretty bright but I still have more playing around to do. The OD channel is pretty cool but the normal channel with my TS clone is very cool too, but it seems better suited to hi-gain which I have no problem with.
I suspect it wont be long before I swap out the generic tubes in it with JJsto mention the greatest piece in that whole picture and most likely one of the least bits price wise - The humble little innocent white Boss NS-2 aka the STFU box that works so damned well and does so without cutting into one's wanted signal (which is why i probably love them so much). I have said before but i'll say it again for high-gain stuff there is no way i would play without one where an OD/Boost and valve-amp are concerned
Your next amp

damn wrong time for me because I just bought an amp or I would be bidding on this. Cool thing is yellow jackets also make a version for amps with 7027s in it if you dont want to pay for 7027s...use to be they were hard to find and not cheap but now thanks to the internet it's easier so yj's are an option.
I sold an Oliver once in a small store I worked at...warmest amp I ever heard, I would have sold it to my alter ego (we couldn't buy used gear) but I didn't have a chance. It didn't stay in the store long enough for me to do so, it wasn't even officially ever on display.

yeah, that can be cleaned up...it's not like the amp itself even needs to be in the original case. What matters is inside, which most parts can be replaced with ease (as long as you take the safety measures like dumping the juice from the caps and such), it's really quite simple to adjust the bias on most amps so not at this point but in the future I might be in the market for a 'fixer upper'.hibidy wrote:haha, really?
Of course I am going to start with building that small amp kit (single EL84 output tube with one 12ax7), then modding it to within an inch of it's life (or blow it up).
I do not plan on this being an overnight thing but I hope by this time next year I'm proficient and building hand wired tube amps and am able to rehab some tube amps I might find on ebay that are not working.
The kit amp is only 215 dollars so I'm not risking much, other companies like weber sell some awesome tube amp kits but do not provide directions...only schematics but this kit has easy to follow steps to start. I can read a schematic but I want to start slow. I also have several books on the way, one lists a bunch of mods for amps with parts you can get with ease. Of course weber has amp mod kits (without instructions, only shematics) starting at 8 bux for a master volume kit and the most expensive tube gain stage mods (with two 12ax7s), tube buffered fx loops tone stacks up to 40 bux.
So if in the future I stumbled across another amp like this at this price I will be all over it as a project
edit...inside and out of the kit amp...if I can't do this there is something wrong

I finally got my MAZ Jr. and now Dr. Z came out with the MAZ 8:
http://www.drzamps.com/amp/maz8/
The MAZ Jr. is a kickin' amp, by far the best Dr. Z I've played and a nice addition to my Blue Angel. Both amps have great feel, with just enough compression and saturation without ever sounding like high gain amps, but where my 4 x 10 Blue Angel sounds like a great Super Reverb, the MAZ sounds like a great brownface.
So, I'm saying it now and I think I really mean it this time: MY SEARCH IS DONE!!!

Kind of related to this, but was looking for some advice as you guys have more knowledge around this than me.
I have a Crate bass amp that has a very flat response, and I'm wondering if I can use it as a monitor from my mixer. My mixer will let me route output from a VST on my PC to the monitor mix, so I'm thinking that I could use the monitor mix to input into the amp and get some volume for a processed guitar so that I can push the volume up and get some feedback effects.
I have L and R out on the mixer, and just a regular instrument in on the amp. To get both channels to a mono input to the amp I'm thinking I would need to use a speaker cable or two and something to convert two channels to one. As the amp input is an instrument input, then the impedance is going to be wrong, but I don't think I'm going to fry the amp or the cable if I use a speaker cable. What I'd like to do is get them matched as well as possible, but not sure how to go about it.
Any advice?

It should work.robojam wrote:I have a Crate bass amp that has a very flat response, and I'm wondering if I can use it as a monitor from my mixer.

Not a speaker cable, use a normal audio cable instead. It doesn't sound necessary to me for you to get a stereo to mono adapter if all you're doing is inducing feedback.I have L and R out on the mixer, and just a regular instrument in on the amp. You can get a Shure or Radial impedance matcher but I don't think it'll matter with a bass amp. Even in the small possibility of it not being optimal, it won't hurt the amp.As the amp input is an instrument input, then the impedance is going to be wrong, but I don't think I'm going to fry the amp or the cable if I use a speaker cable. Maybe I don't need to get the output from both channels I guess, so Just one cable.Uncle E wrote:Not a speaker cable, use a normal audio cable instead. It doesn't sound necessary to me for you to get a stereo to mono adapter if all you're doing is inducing feedback.
An unbalanced cable I guess?
