Dan has been officially kicked off of the PT/KVR bowling team for his public heresy.
If it continues down this path he'll be flogged with bamboo poles while being forced to listen to Justin Beiber's greatest hits.

Just for the record, I wasn't kicked off the bowling team. Avid sold the bowling alley, laid off the cocktail waitresses and is now trying to sell the pins as very analog sounding base traps.

Is it just me or does the description & videos of comping in v2 sound/look better than it really is. This is one area I was hoping presonus would pay a lot of attention to. While comping is better than it was, its still a bit awkward to use. I really don't like having to commit a take part before I can here it with the first take & using the ALT key to audition a part is a bit unintuitive because it just stops playing when you depress the ALT key. Also when using the alt key it turns of loop, I would've thought the whole point in auditioning a part is to hear what it sounds like in the context of the rest of the take.
I always thought Reapers comping method was a bit basic but at least when you split a take part you can here it within the body of the main take just by selecting that part or any of the other parts within that split just by selecting them. Reapers method of comping may be a bit simple but it works & IMHO is quicker & easier to use than S1. Before anyone comes in with "not another bloody Reaper Lover!!" I actually use Ableton Live a lot more which unfortunately has 0 comping. So from what I've seen & tried in other hosts so far Cubase, Logic & Reapers has S1 beat when it comes to comping.
I'm not totally dissing S1 because for the most part it is a big step up from v1 & the workflow is killer! Oh & I really love the melodyne integration. If I'm missing something with the comping in S1 please chime in & enlighten me.

I know with v1 that the boxed version had extra content that wasn't in the download version.
Does the download version of v2 now include all the same content as the boxed version of v2? (I haven't so far spotted anything that suggests otherwise.)

Really, like what? I have the v1 box/DVD's but as far as I remember it had demo versions of 3rd party plugins?rj0 wrote:I know with v1 that the boxed version had extra content that wasn't in the download version.
It should be all in the website to download when you log in into your account?

I certainly could be mistaken (and, of course it was awhile back, and the charts and the like are no longer listed for v1), but I definitely came away believing that there was some bonus content mentioned as box version only for v1. Wish I could remember the details. Perhaps I misinterpreted?dalor wrote:Really, like what? (Not seeing anything in the v2 descriptions that would lead me to similar conclusions.)

The only thing I get from AT3.7 is that if I have 3-4 instances on it it the processor takes a 20% or so hit...your issue just might be part of that continuum?dgkenney wrote:cain wrote:weird how some people have problem and others dont, i have not had one problem since i installed it. i have amplitube 3 all the tracks effects and the melodyne essentials installed and have had no problems with it. how is the crash with melodyne and amplitue happen what steps, i have tried it with it and had no crashes (open both and close both programs with no crashes) any steps so i can try it.
The only problem I an having is when I try to add Amplitube 3.7 as an FX. S1/2 just blows up and goes away. I simply drag A3.7 onto a track and poof! Amplitube works with everything else I have and S1/2 works with everything I have except Amplitube. Supposedly it is some conflict with the version of a library call that Melodyne has already called, albeit a different version.
Whatever, S1/2 is too good right now to worry about this. Someone will come up with a solution.

Doesn't sound like a "diss" to me at all. The method is drag and double-click to promote a section to hear it in context on the main track. Remember, if all of your takes are in lanes it's all fluid.Peevy2000 wrote: I'm not totally dissing S1 because for the most part it is a big step up from v1 & the workflow is killer! In other words, start with an empty take on the main track and promote one entire take, the one you like best. Don't move the whole track up, range select it and promote it to the comp track so all of your individual full takes remain in lanes. As it plays, if you want to hear another part of another take, select and promote it to hear it in context. You can always go back because it's all fluid.
Anyway, the best part about it (imo) is that you can create and store multiple different composite edits, not just one.

This is the suggested workaround for the crashes:cain wrote:weird how some people have problem and others dont, i have not had one problem since i installed it. i have amplitube 3 all the tracks effects and the melodyne essentials installed and have had no problems with it. how is the crash with melodyne and amplitue happen what steps, i have tried it with it and had no crashes (open both and close both programs with no crashes) any steps so i can try it.
"Set environment vairable KMP_DUPLICATE_LIB_OK=TRUE in system, genereally, by click Control PanelSystem property or right click "my computer"=>Properties=>Advanced System setting=>Advanced=>Environmet Variables =>System Variables=>New...
Variable name: KMP_DUPLICATE_LIB_OK
Variable value:TRUE
Then restart your application."
I still haven't upgraded to S1 V2 but I was curious about this, and so I checked that variable in my computer. To my surprise, it was already set to "TRUE"!
I suspect that IK Multimedia's installations change this value and that those who experience the crashes simply didn't install their IK software with admin privileges, and so the installer could not change that setting.

Now that I've had a bit more time with comping in S1 & with your very simple explanation of how you use comping in S1, I see that I was maybe a bit hasty in my judgement of comping S1 style (probably shoulda waited until I had a bit of shuteye before trying it out) I actually quite like the S1 way now.LawrenceF wrote:Doesn't sound like a "diss" to me at all. One other thing that's got me a bit more excited about S1 today (apart from the melodyne ARA integration) is the groove quantize & audio bend tool which I sorta overlooked until seeing these brilliant tutorial videos from jpettit @ the Presonus Forum: http://forums.presonus.com/posts/list/15718.page
Thanks again LawrenceF for putting me straight

Some of these applications and different methods require thinking a little differently to take advantage of a potentially (maybe subjective) best case approach to one system or another. That approach for comping in S1 works pretty well for me, mmv.
My early mistake with this new system was comping takes 2-3-4 right on top of take 1 or something and kinda losing the contiguous full take 1, so now I always start with an empty comp track so all of my full take tracks stay unaffected in their respective lanes for re-use.
Works for me.
