I also bought this today finally. The instruments are much better than I had expected, really very impressive with great velocity sensitivity and expression, although it could do with some wind and brass instruments too and more varied percussion. Good range of keyboards and synths though and the guitars are excellent (better than the Wivi one). Also unless I'm missing something I can't seem to edit the instrument tracks once laid down - is there a piano roll or midi editor tucked away somewhere? If not that's a big omission. I'm using my iPad 2 with the HDMI out linked to my 32 inch monitor which almost makes it feel like a full blown DAW with touch controls, if only it had a bit more editability.

And this is why it is no longer on my iPad. It is really an amazing app. I love the guitar on it, fun to play and impresses non-iPad users. But, for me, not useful for "real" composing. I can see how other could use it, and it could really be a serious tool for music creation. But I am a midi guy. I like to play the parts live, but I like to edit the midi data afterwardInsaniac wrote:No piano roll.

Exactly - I never use quantise but I would like to be able to manually correct my fumblings afterwards - especially as the input methods for the various instruments on the touchscreen take some getting used to (although they are pretty intuitive it's still a small amount of space compared to a real instrument and I don't have a compatible midi controller). It's a nice toy right now so I will keep it but I can't really use it creatively without a piano roll - they must add one at some point hopefullyDewaine wrote:And this is why it is no longer on my iPad. ahh, you guys are too picky. Let's be honest- a piano roll is an escape route for a not so great performance. It's not like you have a piano roll when you play live to go an fix your oops and timing issues. So just keep re-recording until you get it good enough. One thing i have noticed is that Apple has not bothered to add any features- so will they ever? Maybe when/if they release Logic X then we will see a revised Garageband (or maybe just a new version that we have to repay for).

Ya I really wish it had a piano roll. Hopefully they left it out to give themselfs something big to add in a future update.

Yeah but if it was a full sized keyboard/controller I'd have no problem but the iPad is less than ideal as an input device (except for maybe in AniMoog which seems to have quite a powerful and revolutionary keyboard like nothing else I've used - for that the iOS input is better)JavaJ wrote:ahh, you guys are too picky. The lack of any editing options is what makes GB the worst sequencer for iOS. As easy as that.
Which is quite a shame as it actually could be the best. Some of the "smart" instrument ideas are really nice (such as that you can edit your own chords and even play inversions of them, depending on where you touch the key) and the sounds it comes with are better than those of the other iOS sequencers I own.
Also, for Mac users it's getting even better, because you can load your songs straight into either GB or Logic, no conersions, no exports, imports and whatever required.
But then, having NO editing options has got to be a joke. What could be a 5 star app instantly becomes a 1-2 star toy, nothing else.
The second thing that is making me *really* angry: You cannot use the (absolutely great) amp models at all. Why? Simply because with that amount of latency, they're unplayable. And there's no setting to adjust the buffer size anywhere.
Bottomline: It's a toy. Too bad, as they could change that all too easily.
So far, NanoStudio and Music Studio are LOADS better to actually make music rather than painting by numbers.

There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.
