XLR to 3.5mm jack? Is it acceptable? How about quality?

Sure it would work, the latency with a Creative card I assume is not meant for realtime, i.e. singing.

Quality in terms of sound? As long as you have a good connection all around, shouldn't be a problem. 3.5mm jacks got a bad reputation because they are often cheaply-built. However, in that regard, I would worry more about the female jack than the plug- unless it's gonna be getting pulled on by the wire a lot, it'll probably be fine.

Thanks guys! The creative has an asio 2 support i think, besides i don't feel latency ussually, stil not experienced enough.
How about this cable: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sennheiser-CL ... 0600339104

Generally the asio drivers w/Creative cards aren't meant for low latency, only for playing back audio. You can still use asio4all with it, but it might crash occasionally.
So you could get an xlr to 1/8", or a mixer that does xlr to whatever, or whatever else to whatever.

Seems expensive compared to the ones with 1/4" ends at the same shop, I'm guessing because of the screw-down plug. Other than that,

Huh? My old soundblaster card had an 1/8" input. I used it when I first started out recording into Audacity.

It seems like a waste of money to me, any low latency card you'd eventually buy would have either xlr or 1/4".

Yes, 1/8" is the same as 3.5mm, the other jacks are called either phono or RCA.

xlr to 3.5=broken 3.5 jack before too long unless you find a way to support the weight of the xlr and likely a transformer>1/4" to 3.5 adapter.
It's not either or though, you can keep your pc's card and have a 'pro grade' card just for your DAW
edit: just the transformer

you could go with this as well and remove the 1/4" plug with 3.5...with an adapter it will still be more weight on the 3.5 jack than you want

To the OP, the mic input on your soundcard is for electret mics, used by headsets etc. A dynamic mic will still probably work, but I'm not 100%.
Anyway, I wouldn't spend 20 quid on that XLR to 3.5mm cable.

Some don't have either. Like the M-Audio 2496, for example. A cheap preamp/mixer can solve that easily, tho.RunBeerRun wrote:any low latency card you'd eventually buy would have either xlr or 1/4".
This is how it looks... is this a 1/8?
