We will be adding MIDI recording. And there is also this option for now, which I must say is pretty cool.polaris20 wrote:I got my Roland GI-20 yesterday, so I'm looking forward to getting an iRig MIDI and using it with GarageBand for iOS. No I can't find Irig Midi in Beatmaker 2. So far my device can only receive basic midi trigger clock data. It means I can run it in sync with Ableton but that's it for the mo it seems.Dogboy73 wrote:MIDI recorder won't make any difference to MIDI I/O. Can you see the the iRig MIDI in Beatmaker 2 (will probably be in the settings somewhere). In Apps I use that support Core MIDI the iRig shows up as a device.The_Bro wrote:Hi ObiK. Do I need to run Irig Midi recorder in the background? Thoughts welcome. Cheers.ObiK wrote:Yup no worries. Any app that supports Core Midi will work with

Yay! Picked up the iRig MiDI yesterday. I am very happy I finally got an iPad MIDI interface so I can now start taking advantage of iPad apps. My keyboards/racks are 20+ years old so I can't take advantage of the CCK. I've hooked it up to a few apps already and having a great time. Eventually I'd like to start using the iPad for sequencing with Nanostudio.
I also have SampleTank and am trying to get a feel for how I will integrate that into my live rig. I was hoping it would help replace the Yamaha S90XS keyboard I'm using live so I have one less piece of equipment to haul out on stage. But it doesn't quite have the organ sound I'm looking for and the strings are not quite up to what I want. But my main reason for getting SampleTank was so I would finally have a nice grand piano sound at home (the S90 is not mine). And it really does sound nice. I'll probably write more in the actual SampleTank thread.

Good to hear. That'll make it far more useful for sure.Brian @ IK Multimedia wrote:We will be adding MIDI recording. Does this work both directions? - ie from keyboard to iPad or from IPad to computer? eg could I use it with something like Konkreet Performer or TouchOsc to control synths on my laptop?

iRig MIDI goes both ways. I am most interested in using a keyboard to control the sounds on the iPad, but the iRig MIDI also has MIDI Out if your app will send it. Keep in mind, not every application has implemented sending MIDI Out.
One reason I got the iRig MIDI is also because it has a MIDI Thru. I have other MIDI equipment and don't want to break the chain. I could have put the iRig MIDI at the end of the chain, but I'd rather not. I have not yet tested the MIDI Thru capability.
I just spent over an hour practicing for an upcoming gig with the iRig MIDI. It was TERRIFIC! I tried getting SampleTank hooked up but I just could not figure out a way to play a song, allowing me to play SampleTank on top of it. I tried the iPod, Hokusai and GarageBand. The iPod and Hokusai turned off background audio. SampleTank would play with GarageBand but it was completley distorted. So I ended up just using GarageBand and putting the music/audio onto a GB track. I used the new 'Automatic' setting (at least I think it's new with the update) to define my song length. Then I used some strings and an organ I made. I was ready to go. It was a TON of fun. Since it's all in GB I can even make a recording for the band leader so he can hear if I'm on the right track of what he wants me to play. The iPad is AMAZING!

I just got my new Irig Midi...am very excited...
a couple issues....
1) I find when plugging into ipad 2, the connector almost seems like it doesnt really go in all the way...has anyone else noticed this issue at all...i'm pretty concered with this...it seems to connect fine with iphone 4, but ipad 2 connection seems very flakey..
here's a small video clip:
2) is there anyway to disable the triggered loops when using sampletank ios?...it's ridiculous to try and play on a midi keyboard and then get to the lower register and inadvertently start triggering the loops.
Thanks!

Yes. I noticed mine wasn't going in all the way either. I think that's just as far it will go. If I do put this to use, I will start using it three times a week, tearing down and moving things. My biggest concern with the iRig MIDI has been if it will hold up to lots of use. My kids have been away with friends all day today and I've spent the day playing and practicing today with the device. I'm really enjoying it.
Yes. You can turn the looping patterns off. I wish it were a global option so it NEVER gets turned on. Go to a sound and enter edit or play. Next to the little selected sound is an arrow pointing to the right. Click on this until it becomes unselected. This will turn off the loop from playing. I wish this were global so I wouldn't have to worry about it. I'm concerned it will get flipped on without me knowing and then start up during a set.
Oh, I also noticed every once in awhile, the device triggers a lite click sound in time with the red light blinking. I would hear this through my iPad's audio. Then it would fade away. This concerns me. I don't know if it's the iPad picking up some radio frequency or what. Anyone else notice this? With a full sound, playing, you don't hear it, but I still prefer as clean a sound as possible. Something like a quiet piano part, I can hear it.

hmm...this seems disconcerting...especially for a device to be used LIVE...you can't have these flakey things...I used to have an RME audio interface with my Powerbook...similar kind of connector...it gets the slightest bump, and you're screwed basically...this can't happen when playing live...these devices need to work together seamlessly....
turning off those loops should absolutely be GLOBAL setting!

Your answer about iRig MIDI not going in entirely, it was designed like that so that it would still fit iOS devices with bumpers.jazzmeister1 wrote:(trying to post this for a 2nd time)

This sounds like a logical/good idea to make the irig midi useable with cases and bumpers but already I have had the interface lose connection with the slightest bump....how can you expect people to rely on something so fragile in a live situation? (even a movement of a fraction of a millimeter seems to disconnect the interface )..especially in a club or lounge bar where people may be all around you while playing....this doesn't make sense to me...are you sure
It wasn't a manufacturing issue?....I am considering returning my irig midi and going for one of the competing products even though those ones don't let you charge your device while using. I really want irig midi to work for me....just not convinced of this purchase.
Thanks
