Hello,

I am inexperienced dealing with midi CC and am at a loss when trying to use the functions it allows whilst using LA Scoring Strings.

For example on notes with long articulations CC1 is used to cross-fade dynamics. I am able to use and record this in real time as it's automatically assigned to the mod-wheel on my controller but can't find the automation envelope in any of LASS, Kontakt or Ableton so as I can edit after recording. How do you go about finding the automation?

Also as the mod wheel on my controller is set to to CC1 as default I can use it no problem whereas CC83 which controls the speed of portamento and glissando in legato phrasing I have no idea how to assign that to any control as I can't find a way to do so within Kontakt, LASS and Ableton. What do I have to do to assign midi cc nos. to my desired control surface?

Thanks for any help out there.

for automation - in clip view, under where the clip is, you will see 3 circles, L - notes - E. click the E (for envelopes) and you will be able to edit midi CC envelopes.

what kind of control surface are you using? usually editing CCs on the control surface is supported. if not, you can use a midi mapper. live doesn't have a CC remapper built in like that, but if you can map what you want to kontakt automation, you can use live's midi mapping.

Thanks for your response. Didn't realise you could access the CC envelopes from there, makes sense and works great.

Still not sure how to assign CCs to my controller which is a Korg Nano Kontrol and Roland Juno D. Just tried using the Live midi mapper to assign CC5 which controls portamento time and can't seem to do it from just Live, nor can I find where it can be assigned in Kontakt/ LASS.

Thanks for your help.

for the korg nanokontrol - use the korg kontrol editor (search google, pull up the nanokontrol product page, click support, scroll down), it will let you set the CC for any of the knobs and sliders in the nanokontrol.

not sure about the juno-d or LASS, as i don't have (kontakt just assigns to what's in the patch, so lass would control that I think). but using the nanokontrol should work.

you could accomplish this with something like midiox + a loopback device (hubi's loopback or loopbe1). instead of having live use the input directly, have midiox connect to the input, route output to the loopback device, have live use the loopback device as input, and midiox (among others) has a lot of midi manipulation stuff. (Same concept works for things like edrummonitor).

There are also VST midi FX you can use inside of live, but they are kind of clunky too.. you'll need to put the midi VST on a track, then have a separate track for LASS. Route the input to the track with the VST on it, then the track with LASS receives midi from the track with the VST on it. Less work than the above i guess though, and you can save it in the song.
Here's a pointer to some of those:
