I'm stuck. All I'm trying to do is send a program change to an external hardware device. Other post is not very clear and somewhat confusing or out of context.
A clear, concise step by step would be nice.

Any help much appreciated.

1) Create New Trigger by pressing "New Trigger"

2) Set Event dropdown menu to "Session Load"

3) Set Action dropdown menu to "Send MIDI Program Change"
note:
this will bring up a pop up box that is called *Send Program Change".
at the bottom of the box there are Program Number Formats to choose from.
You do not select one, you type in your format to the program box provided
eg. <program number> means enter a number. <bank>.<program number> means
enter the bank number followed by a period and then the program number.
<msbank>.<lsbank>.<program number> means enter the msb for bank followed
by a period folowed by the lsb for bank and another period folowed by the
program number. examples 6 (sends program change number 6)
1.4 (sends bank change 1 and program change 4) etc..
the reason for the different formats is compatibility problems with different
controllers (yamaha, roland, kurweil all have different ways to accept midi
program changes).

4) Set Target dropdown menu to your desired Midi Device. (If it is not in the list you need to check the manual and set up your midi devices.)

5) Set MIDI Channel dropdown menu to desired channel.

Manually test trigger by pressing green play icon next to "Edit" on your trigger rack.

Hope this helps

Thanks so much. I had it correct, but thought I was missing something. It must be on the other end of the communication where lies the problem.

Thanks again for the quick reply.

If you have trouble fixing problems with midi flow on your PC setup, I have two hints:

1. You can use Midi OX - a free tool - to monitor midi flow.

2. You can use a virtual midi cable driver to connect midi sources and destinations.

My personal favourite (free!) virtual midi cable is "loopMidi" from Tobias Erichsen. It is based on Apple Bonjour services (for PC) - which you can download for free as well - from Apple.

It has two major benefits:
- you can start and stop it without booting your machine
- you can add/remove ports on the fly and name the ports to your liking

I hope these hints make it easier to analyze your midi flow issue.
