How many more beatbox apps does the world need? We need rock drums, soaring synths, powerful B-3's, and fat not phat Moogs!!! Can't tell that I'm an old fart can you? LOL

---Am I the only one of here who plays progressive rock? It seems like most of the apps are meant for trance, hip hop, house, etc...No disparaging remarks but those are not for me. I love the Animoog, kind of like Sampletank, and there are a few apps that have this ethereal quality that blow me away but the drum patterns? Not even close to the style of music want to hear or play! Am I alone with wanting more rock oriented apps?

Hmm, I've done some guitar work and run in through Sugar Bytes Turnado, not exactly prog rock but you could get some pro rock fx from using vst fX, no?Scott Murrell wrote:---Am I the only one of here who plays progressive rock? I use my iPad for rock and guitar practice. Some of the drum machines have acoustic drum sounds and you just program your own patterns. The synth presets might be aimed at trance and dance but you can make your own sounds.

Lol, i thought the opposite mate and wished i played guitar as it seemed that there are loads of cool amp things etc and not as many quality electronic apps.
It probably depends on which side your sitting and it always seems nicer on the other side.
As it stands, even though some apps are superb for what they are, i still feel that the 'real' stuff for the ios devs hasn't yet arrived. The stuff were seeing are testers to see if the market is there before some real investement takes place.
Just mho.

---I really appreciate the replies. I truly wish I could make my own drum patterns but sadly that whole concept escapes me so if it's not something pretty well thought out ahead of time I'm lost.
I really agree that we've not seen anything yet like we're going to see and maybe I'll still be around when someone develops an arranger type app dedicated to fusion, prog and Skittles...LOL
Thanks,Scott

You could try the smart drums in garage band, very easy to get a good drum pattern by moving the different drums around a grid. Garage band does all the hard stuff for you.

Depends on the type of rock but the first electronic music I listened to was either by bands like Pink Floyd, Henry Cow, Greenslade, Hawkwind, The Residents, Can, Genesis, ELP, Tangerine Dream and many other "Rock" bands, or by "modern classical" composers like Stockhausen or Jazz musicians like Jan Hammer and Annette Peacock. It was only much much later that some genres of dance music started incorporating some aspects of electronic music.J.C wrote:Well, I can understand that there is more Apps and Applications for Electronic music than for Rock.
Isn't Rock music usually play by a band?!? Not always but still...

Surely Rock is a brand, you are a musician and Pop will eat itself.Scott Murrell wrote:---Am I the only one of here who plays progressive rock? I'm with ya. I get so sick of so many dub/electronica/house/trance/whatever apps that are heavy on bleeps, blips and bloops but I can't even pull off a $%!@ flam or a ghost note.Scott Murrell wrote:---Am I the only one of here who plays progressive rock? So I gave up. I'll be getting BFD 2 or Superior Drummer 2.0 and quit pretending I can play Bill Bruford or Neil Peart on my iPhone.

One of the main problems (at least IMO): So far there's not a single sequencer allowing you to play guitar through a software amp on an iOS device at reasonable latency. That's the major showstopper. Garageband could be kickass with editing options (there's exactly none) and lower latency (way way waaaay too high right now). Music Studio could as well be great but while latency might be acceptable, it has no amp simulation. Amplitube has a useable latency but no sequencing, just a 4-track recorder, so you need to go through a cumbersome process of exporting and importing tracks of other sources.
Etc etc.
There's no true love for guitar players under iOS yet. Especially not for those wanting to compose using some other instruments along with their guitars. And well, if you ask me, guitars are essential for progressive rock and the likes.

+1 I like to think that I fit under the progressive rock label (though I hate labels)...however I am not into cell phones so such technology is not of interest for me...Sascha, I need to send you a pm...please do not miss it (give me 5 or 10 minutes)Sascha Franck wrote:One of the main problems (at least IMO): So far there's not a single sequencer allowing you to play guitar through a software amp on an iOS device at reasonable latency. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
