Hi! I have never paid attention to cellphones. Yes, i have one, very old that only can be used for ...talk. I guess im in the prehistory
I have seen that they now sports Operative systems, isnt?, so i wondered myself if they can become like mini computers for recording, or they are not there yet?
I have some questions, that you that are in the knowledge, can help me:
1) Can new cellphone (any of them) run some kind of DAW?
2) If there are some kind of daw, can be used them to record stereo tracks trough a decent line-in or usb mic?
3) Can be midi be recorded? Are some kind of "VSTi" for that daws, if they exist?
4) Which model of phones can do these things? any good price/quality bargain?
Thanks for ilustrate me a little.

Get an iPhone 4S. I have an Android phone, and they have serious latency problems with audio apps. This will hopefully be resolved eventually, but as of now, iPhone is the way to go.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

iPhone is the mobile / cell phone that is supported most for music. You have apps that can record, create and adit audio and midi. It has some great synths, drum machines, guitar apps and mini DAW's. I'm a PC user, I've never owned a Mac but I own an iphone and an iPad, great experience for music whatever you do.

For nearly everything but music, Android. For music, iPhone. I love my Droid X but I don't have any music apps because of that latency issue. No worries, I didn't get it for music-making.

When you refer to latency, what are you talking about? like the latency of soundcards with ASIO? or any other problem?Meffy wrote:For nearly everything but music, Android. For music, iPhone. The time between when you operate a control and when the sound comes out. As much as I like them, Androids aren't so good at this. I'm hoping an OS upgrade will eventually take care of it, but it's unwise to buy something expensive in the hopes it will eventually do what you want.

Googling about what you post, i found a very interesting discussion about the latency in Android. Appear it's related only to the software... too bad.

Aww c'mon. Really? I want to get a new phone, but I'm allergic to apples so I don't want an iPhone...
