A very late answer to this:

1)Why are you presuming that people who get crazy about iPad gizmos are the same as those who are questioning the quality of virtual instruments?

2) It is really easy to go crazy over 1 $ synths of Animoog's quality no matter what you think of VSTs or hardware in general.

3) The "fraction" thing is a heavy underestimation. Synths like Sunrizer, iSyn Poly, Arctic Keys, Addictive and also Animoog have plenty of features, among other things x-y control and lots of modulation options. But of course you usually have to buy them or watch the videos or read the manuals to find out.

At this particular forum at KVR you will find that the majority of people who are posting love the iThingy and usually there are no "X-vs-Y" crap among them. Only a lot of coorporation, sharing of experiences, knowledge, tricks and tips. Other forums at KVR could really learn from this.
The "X-vs-Y" crap usually arises when outsiders who haven't got an iThingy interfere with their most unwelcome and wiseless attitudes, mostly based on arguments that smell of ignorance, envy or trolling.

People around here are pretty nuts about iThingies and Apps. I own a whole deal of PC gear but will never return to it. If that turns the world upside down for you in a way that cause anxiety, you can always stay away from the forum...or you could confront your anxiety by buying an iThingy and become one us under the parole: If you can't beat them, join them! :)

Speaking about the sun: Animoog has just been updated with background audio and better midi, so now you can run it directly from Genome in a session with virtual midi synths even when you close the app. 8)

And a randomize preset feature, which is great but mostly make noises at the moment (although pretty cool noises). I hope they expand on this, a la Absynth where you can set a percentage slider on the randomize. It really needs MIDI out though, doesn't seem like they included it in this update.

Yup! And selectable midi channels would be fine too. For now it is set to channel 1 and will occupy this in a session. Thus, if you want to use it in a midi session, it can only be with synths that have selectable midi channels.

A tempo and key/scale lock would be nice.
