So far my tests show that Nanostudio, MusicStudio and FL Mobile can not connect to virtual midisynths unless they are bridged. Unfortunately this also regard meteor in my test. Meteor should connect if you are on a real midi session using wi-fi (not tested) or a virtual midi session ( Genome or midi bridge - tested) , but it doesn' t connect directly to virtual midiports on my system.

MidiCore synths like addictive, iSyn Poly , Argon, Grainbender and Animoog can be controlled by Genome and play together with VM synths this way. However, they are limited because they usually do not have selectable midi channel and thus either recieve on channel 1 or omni. In the latter case you can not use it in a session because it will respond to all channels. In the first case you can only use one MidiCore synth in a session, namely on channel 1.

If others have similar or different experiences plz share them.

Cheers

I confirm that Meteor connect to Arctic keys on my iPad 2 with ios 4.3.3 Jailbroken.

Meteor MIDI setup:
Enable MIDI: On ;-)
MIDI Out: All ports

Thats it, you can leave the rest off.

Arctic Key MIDI Setup:
Input: Any port

The end

Or you can choose wathever MIDI channel you want...

If Meteor would have Background capabilities I could record Arctic Keys from Meteor instead Of having to import a MIDI File.

Tsk, tsk, tsk...you naughty little....that is an important information. There are several positive side effects of a jailbreak and easier midi access between different apps could indeed be one of them.

Or maybe it is just iOS5 that sucks

Post

Maybe it's a side effect... Glad not to be stuck with a stock ios.

Thinking about it, When I asked Paul from 4Pockets if i can connect to other Apps with Meteor, he answered yes without asking if I was Jailbroken or wathever.
So...

Yes, but he links to the MidiBridge app that I have been talking about all the time. Actually he refers to my comments on the issue at iDesignSound. :)

Still don't work for me on iOS5 but it' s OK, Meteor is not my main DAW. I use BM2 and that is soon going to be updated with Virtual Midi

Thanks for the hint though, it might work for others.

I can't wait for this BM2 Update to be released!!!!

This is a great trick! I did not know this..... thanks!
Hi Dewaine
Just in case you don't know yet, Animoog has just been updated and apparently with Virtual Midi (and background audio :wheee: ), so you do not have to connect by a fake network session anymore. Animoog now connects directly to Genome. It's inputs appears in Genome's "midi output" section and in Animoog's set up, you just have to connect it to "Genome" and not the "network session 1".

Cheers Mate

Genome, as good as it is still lacks the real time input/recording from its non resizable keyboard... WHY?! :(
... and why is it not resizable and transposable to begin with?!
Also, inputing the notes is quite frankly pain in the arse...
Common Genome Devs, you can do better than that ;)

You're right, and I may be an Idiot but I can't find a way to change the lenght of notes neither.
Quite a basic stuff...

I would LOVE Genome if it had more easy editing capabilities.

You're not an idiot, it is yet another flaw in this seemingly perfect app...

I agree with both of you. Genome is usable but it has some way to go with regard to keyboard input and editing.

Another thing: Making different synths work together in a midi session is really cool but in the state of the art, you still have to record them independently to their own pasteboards and gather them in a DAW like BM2, NanoStudio, Meteor ect. What we need is a "record what you hear" app that can record the session as a whole and export it as an audio file.

Cheers

+1 and than some...
Meteor perhaps..?

Post

+1
with some minor improvment I really think Meteor would do the Job very well. It's very frustrating to see all these amazing Apps but still have to wait for THE DAW...
