Does it break anything? My iPad tells me it's already downloaded. A bit cheeky to do that behind my back.

Post

All main/ldevs have posted updates already.
You should be fine :)

Post

Wow! First time I've had an iOS update go smoothly and not brick my device - this Cloud based updater is definitely an improvement

Post

What the hell, guess I'll install then...

amused, really? What hardware was getting bricked?

You have crappy luck. I support hundreds of iOS devices, and they almost never brick.

Post

I had no issues with it (so far). Installed on iPhone 4 and iPad 1.

Post

Nice to be be able to update directly from the idevice (I hate iT***).
5.0.1 fine here so far on iPad 2.

Type 1604, 1603, 1602, 1601, 1600 errors during firmware update into Google - it doesn't just happen to me. I've had it on my iPhone and iPad 2 every single update since I first bought my iPhone 3G back when it was iOS 2. Tried installing from different PCs and using several different USB cables. The only fix I have found is to kill the iTunes process during dfu mode and then restart it and reinstall everything from backup - I've had to do this every time until now. Finally I am free of iTunes and its crappy support for Windows PC's.

I am a huge fan of iCloud (still also use Dropbox) and the update was so smooth not having to go through iTunes. Updated 2 iPad 2's, and 2 iPhone 4's..... all went perfect.....

iPhone 3G? that is a second generaton device and the last supported iOS version was 4.1 or 4.2.

iOS5 is only supported on 3rd generation devices and newer (iPhone 3GS and newer).

So, if you say you experience problems with iOS5 update on iPhone 3G that is likely to be expected.

Good thing I didn't say that then :hihi:

well, the Icloud 5.0.1 update screwed up my 3GS, it started rebooting itself every 5 minutes , until I did a restore. Maybe a corrupt download, but there should be a checksum feature.
OTOH, my Ipad 1 updated just fine.
Also , it appears there are some gripes about the update on some forums, particularly battery life not getting any better.

hmmm, did you do Over The Air update or total restore?

Well, it seems a bit short to state about battery life enhancements ... But it seems not tremendous, maybe a little bit. Hope they tweak it further.

Installed 5.0.1 on my iPad 1 and all the music apps work correctly so far (Animoog, TouchOSC, Polychord, etc.).

Multitasking gestures are a very welcome plus.

Saw the OTA update , let it install, troubles began. Plugged into Itunes did a restore, which BTW, you can only do to 5.0.1, Apple locks out any downgrade unless you use TinyUmbrella (and you saved a profile first BEFORE the update) and or Red Snow.
