Looking for the best acoustic guitar vst to replace Omnisphere gtrs

Omni guitars are testament to good programming skills... No extravagant key switching or excess multi layers, just awesome playability. if I were you I'd spend the money on upping the bits of your computer that need it the most. RAM and a new CPU (depending on your socket type, you might find there's an ex top-of-the-range CPU on blowout) sound like the best bet. stick with what you know and like!

Thanks but it would cost a hell of alot more than the $179 to upgrade my Openlabs Neko workstation ram and cpu.While I plan on upgrading my workstation at some time in the future, doing it for the sake of an acoustic gtr vst isn't a good enough reason for me at this time.Keeping it simple and focused for what I need now.

Let me get on the RealGuitar thing again.

Of course, you NEED to learn how to use it, and utilize a proper driver in front of an amp (unless we talk acoustic, then yuo need to use massive compression and EQ). These things are as clean as a crystal ball. You just need to know your workarounds.


In terms of Kontakt, I think nothing can beat VIR2's Electri6ity, IMO not even Prominy. Especially not for that price.

Pettinhouse if fairly simple, so you get off better with the alternative unless Andrea Pettinao upgrades his guitars with new KSP scripting. Doesn't mean that they are bad, just not as versatile.

There was another guitar with a good stumming engine, acoustic. Dunno of hand the name.


Still, all these Kontakt packs are no individual VSTi, and they're sure as hell not cheap.


Word of advice:
If you're sick of Omnisphere, look back at RealGuitar LPC/Strat/2L again and learn how to use the keyswitches or the "dynamics" mode. Here videos from Keytar Jeff (Jeffrey Abbott) can help (Youtube).

If everything else fails, and you have the money: VIR2.
The rest is just playing with the boys IMO (again, not that the competiion is bad - plenty of variation - it just depends on WHAT you want to pull off, and this seperates the man from the boys).

But looking at the , it's in no step inferior or that much better than REalGuitar2L.

There's also Poetic Acoustic Guitars which I'm selling in the market place at the moment. I can't compare to all other guitar libraries, but I find them very good compared to Omnisphere library guitars and Kontakt guitars. And there's a very flexible strumming engine.

I've been intrigued by the promotional material for Poetic but put off by the lack of a demo version... any chance one might be in the offing?

I'd still give RealGuitar2L a chance though. The more you work with it, the simpler it is to use.

Proper EQ is essential, and for this price, you have several acoustic guitars as well.

I had a rough time with it at first but gradually got to grips with it. It can be a bit flakey sometimes but you can get excellent results. Be sure to try the demo first. I found after a lot of trial and error that using multiple patterns within Acid Pro 7 just won't work; but got it to work in Reaper. The sampling isn't up there with the best (e.g. Orange Tree, et. al) but, I find that RG's strumming and picking patterns make it much more playable (then again my keyboard skills aren't much to speak of) than Orange Tree or Indignius.

The sampling isn't up there with the best (e.g. Orange Tree, et. al) but, I find that RG's strumming and picking patterns make it much more playable...

Agreed, it was recorded a bit too thin for my liking. But then again, nothing that the usual suspects (EQ, compression, enhancers) can't fix if you know where to add them. Due to that, it's easier to "mix" to content rather than fixing an overmixed recording.

But I wouldn't say that the "sound" or the samples in general are bad, just... thin sounding. You also have round robin (called variation, that's the double arrow below the accent slider), you have 8 accoustic guitars in only about 560MB (44kHz version) compared to tons of GB for Kontakt Presets that need Kontakt as well, and due to the "brain" you don't need samples for bending, special FX, etc. It's that efficient.


The only problem I have with RG2L is it's "brain". I'd love to see these guitars running with the brains from RS and RLPC (keyswitches!). But if you know the workarounds (e.g. Split Keyboard setup, grab the MIDI CC# pack from the Musiclab forums, etc), you have no problems whatsoever.

I'd also see a custom chord mode like with the mentioned suspects and a pattern mode editor. But then again, there is hope that there will be RG3.

Well, there was a demo version, because I once downloaded it from their site. I believe there still is, but probably for one guitar only, not for all of them. But I'm not sure.

Everything else is KONTAKT (Player) bound and therefore no standalone VSTi.

So what's wrong with Kontakt Player? It's a VSTi, except it can host more than one library. I think that's actually better than having multiple VSTis for, say, an acoustic, a Strat, and an LP.


I'll also say that RealGuitar stuff isn't particularly "real". Very thin, and not really alive sounding. No, even keytarist Jeff can't make it sound as realistic as Greg does with his Orange Tree stuff. OTS is absolutely topnotch, IMHO better than Vir2 by far.

Definitely lies within the eye of the beholder (what sounds real and what not, especially with proper EQ/Compression). Personally I still say the "Real" guitars are among the top players.


I'm not seeing Kontakt or Kontakt Player as "VSTi" per se, I still see both as "sampler" or "rompler" that only triggers programmed samples rather than being standalone. Granted, some samplesets come with the Player, but most of them require the full Kontakt version which adds to the price of certain samplesets.

I play guitar and almost nothing else , but all of the suggested apps here can do things Omnisphere doesn't even try to do.

But really if you can't handle the "glorious guitars" preset, and a computer upgrade isn't in your near-future, it's time to sell Omnisphere. The chapman stick in Trilian is strangely more flexible to me, and I use that more than anything if I don't pick up one of my guitars.

+1 on RealGuitars, but if you hear it back it's still clear you're not playing a guitar. Many people, justifiably so, don't care about that depending on what flavor of music you make.

But the thing about guitars will always be about attitude to me, and it's not about the notes. You can buy a cheap Yamaha acoustic, you'll need a pick-up and a DI box, and then you'll have to learn how to play the beast.

My point is, if you have Omnisphere I wouldn't spend a hundred bucks to buy anything else, but I'm always fascinated to hear, see, divine what someone's trying to do.

As a guitar player I'd give up one of my legs before I'd give up Omnisphere, but I know every situation is different.
