I wish you big success! You've got a cool tool there. The compressor is very good. I can't generalize my taste but maybe seperate plugins would have been or will be more successful!?
Group Buys seem to be a good thing always.

This is a false-positive that should be reported to the manufacturer of the antivirus software so that they can remove it from their list. The .exe version is just a standalone version that is used in the registration process.manducator wrote:Mixcontrol.exe got moved to virus chest by Avast free version...

Sorry to hear about the difficulties, this is a fine piece of software which deserves to do well and the whole illegal downloads situation just sucks big time
I'm surprised to hear you have only sold a few licenses
As one of the few who have recently bought MixControl Pro I have to say it's one of the best purchases I've made in a long time and I'm very pleased with it. I did hesitate to buy it at its full price but after picking up one of your sample packs at a crazy introductory price ($5 I think!!) I realised I could purchase MixControl Pro for the loyalty discount price of $79 which made it a complete 'no-brainer'
I'm sure a Group Buy would help, I'd have jumped on board like a shot if I didn't already own it!
As far as spreading the word is concerned, my thoughts are:
- get reviewed by music websites/magazines, send a copy to all of them, Computer Music, Music Tech etc. Don't know how easy it is to get them to review you but I'm sure even a mention on the mini-review pages would help
- release a cut down freeware version, or re-release the original MixControl v1 as freeware, send a copy to Computer Music etc to go on their Freeware page, offer a version for the coverdisc, include a competitive 'upgrade' price to the new MixControl Pro
- include some mix examples on your website 'before and after' MixControl Pro processing
- check your website is showing up well in Google searches. 'Channel Strip vst' does show you on the first page of results but 'Channel strip plugin' and 'best channel strip', for example, do not (not even on pages 2 or 3 either). I'm no expert in such matters but my website design mates inform me there are ways and means of getting yourself higher up the search terms rankings - just a thought, your website is excellent but many people may simply not be finding it
- donate a copy as a prize each month here on KVR for the Music Cafe or OSC competitions, don't know how many sales it might generate but it will raise your profile further - I found your software by chance, I'd never heard of you before, but as an amateur hobbyist musician looking for a quality channel strip, MixControl ticked all the boxes, I'd have picked it up months before if I knew it existed
Apologies if you've already thought of these options or tried them previously. In my line of work DNR means 'Do Not Resuscitate' and I'd hate to think of this being the fate of this excellent plugin
Keep up the good work!
Jon

Check your PM's please.
Thanks Jon, we'll make sure to keep you in everyone in the loop as far as the group buy is concerned, and if we do indeed organize such an event, anyone who purchased after the initial release will be includedDoc Jon wrote:Sorry to hear about the difficulties, this is a fine piece of software which deserves to do well and the whole illegal downloads situation just sucks big time

If anyone has sufficient experience in group buys and marketing, we would love to hear from you. We're looking for any help we can get in promoting something like this

It goes much much faster if the developer contacts the manufacturers of anti-virus-software. Just sayin'... (also it is your product, not ours)DNR Collaborative wrote:This is a false-positive that should be reported to the manufacturer of the antivirus software so that they can remove it from their list. We have already contacted each applicable anti-virus software manufacturer about the issue and reported our application. But now, just because it is our software, wouldn't you want to assist us in making sure this gets resolved, especially where your anti-virus software comes equipped with a reporting function? I personally feel that this is the type of attitude that will prevent us from going any further in the consumer-based software development market than we've already gone. We've worked very hard to provide our users with a product that is hugely better in quality than the last version, and all with no upgrade fees. I don't really understand this attitude at all.cyphersuit wrote:It goes much much faster if the developer contacts the manufacturers of anti-virus-software. Just sayin'... No disrespect meant here at all , but every now and again you do spout some rubbish, dangling the threat of closure (No support) in front of your own userbase is very "Wusik" and i won't be putting anymore ideas your way that's for sure, as for you not understanding the attitude of somebody who wants you to actually do something yourselves, well I have to say it doesn't surprise me at all you don't understand it.DNR Collaborative wrote:We have already contacted each applicable anti-virus software manufacturer about the issue and reported our application. I think that either there is a serious issue of constant misunderstandings throughout this discussion, which I'm not sure I can understand either - absolutely in no way did I even suggest "closure" or "no support" to our customers. In fact, I believe that I have stated everything in a proper and clear way. I stated this:gpunk wrote:No disrespect meant here at all , but every now and again you do spout some rubbish, dangling the threat of closure (No support) in front of your own userbase is very "Wusik" and i won't be putting anymore ideas your way that's for sure, as for you not understanding the attitude of somebody who wants you to actually do something yourselves, well I have to say it doesn't surprise me at all you don't understand it.

which I cannot see as threatening in any way. I'm sorry that you feel that my public persona is horrid, but I don't see anything that I've said that can be viewed in a threatening or otherwise dismal fashion. I have tried diligently to be attentive to nearly all customer requests and comments, and will continue to do so.

@takk
I would say you possibly are then ?
Then again i don't wear rose tint glasses no matter how much i like a product
@DNR
Well stop moaning about not going any further or how much hard work you have already put in and your userbases attitudes, you have a great product that as has already been said is overpriced in the current market and economy
Halve the price, group buy it and once you have a much much bigger userbase you can start to diversify
You may think these are harsh words but it is very easy to see how many companies are struggling and how much independents are having to lower prices (Look at sknote)
If you need a bad example of the route you are headed go look at Wusiks history, they have a fan base that will stick with them, but they also have a huge portion of the market that wont touch them ever again because of "We put in so much hard work , we need this, we are gonna stop" type of comments, much like yourself
It is plainly obvious how much hard work has gone in to such a good plugin, and it is also plainly obvious that at the price you are asking you are not going to get impulse buyers who will instead go and download a crack or a freebie, not a nice thought but true
Everybody who tries the plugin comments how nice it is until they see the price, I can't say how many times the price has been mentioned and the reply has been "Screw that i'll chain my toneboosters"
I don't really want to tell you how to run your business so take it as you like
