Wouldn't it be possible to add something to the load process that essentially says, "if preset does not contain locut filter tag, default to zero?"

I was thinking something along those lines, or something along the lines of "if preset lowcut range is outside these bounds, default to lowest setting" where a non-existent tag would be outside those bounds.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:Wouldn't it be possible to add something to the load process that essentially says, "if preset does not contain locut filter tag, default to zero?"
But, again, no plans on updating ValhallaRoom anytime soon. The 1.0.9 update will be the current one for the next few months at least.

Sorry to go OT, and further apologies if this has been covered, but do you have a dedicated hall plug-in in mind for the future, Sean, or is that all being covered in this current plug-in?
I realize you've added algos that can do hall sounds, but just wondering if you might have something planned that will focus on that.

What are you not hearing from ValhallaRoom? I can hardly tell the difference between algos and your asking for an entire reverb dedicated to just one?A.M. Gold wrote:I realize you've added algos that can do hall sounds, but just wondering if you might have something planned that will focus on that.

Wasn't asking for it, was asking about it.

Just bought this, absolutely fantastic, huge thanks to Sean Costello for such a great plugin at such a fair price! I don't know if this has been requested already but I would love to have a preset browser. Something where I could see all presets at once, as opposed to scrolling through them. If this exists already and I missed it, my apologies.

Click on the red preset name (to the right of the white PRESET:). A popup menu will come up, that will allow you to quickly view the presets.andrew_k wrote:Just bought this, absolutely fantastic, huge thanks to Sean Costello for such a great plugin at such a fair price! My question still stands, what "golden" ears do you have that tells you that your hall reverb isn't already being fulfilled by the reverb plugins that you own? I'm just interested because obviously you are not hearing something that I'm not aware of. So... is there any reverb plugin that gives you at least something akin to your desired hall reverb sound? After all, a hall is just a big space.A.M. Gold wrote:Wasn't asking for it, was asking about it.

Just finished my first song with only V-Room as the exclusive reverb, it adds a wonderful gloss to everything.
As far as I'm concerned my other reverbs have been put out of commission.

There are a couple of reverb types that I would call "hall":Architeuthis wrote:My question still stands, what "golden" ears do you have that tells you that your hall reverb isn't already being fulfilled by the reverb plugins that you own? - A real concert hall. Which is, in essence, a big room, with particular characteristics. So I figure that the "real concert halls" are covered by ValhallaRoom. The good sounding "shoebox" halls will have the earliest energy coming from the sides, or "lateral reflections" in the terminology used by people who study concert halls. These reflections tend to be very diffuse, due to the standard ornamentation, columns, and niches commonly found in concert halls. In order to get this sort of sound out of VRoom, set Early Size to 30 msec or more, and Early Send to 1.0. This will give you a diffuse onset of reverberation, while the Early Size can be used to create the initial predelay.
- The various Lexicon algorithms that have been called "Hall." The 224 Concert Hall was the classic early example of this. Somewhat sparse early echo density that builds with time, lots of modulation, big spatial image, and the ability to control the early reverb slope with the "DEPTH" control (which actually shaped outputs from the tank, instead of mixing early + late as in ValhallaRoom). The 480L introduced 2 more algorithms that were used for Halls. One was a variant of the Rich Chamber algorithm from the 224XL, with a few sparse delay taps used for Shape and Spread. The other, Random Hall, was an "extended" Rich Chamber, with a much denser Shape/Spread shaping the initial attack of the reverb, and a new modulation scheme that randomized things without causing as much pitch change as earlier modulation schemes.
ValhallaRoom doesn't really have any of the latter algorithms. Nostromo and Narcissus take some inspiration from the 224 Concert Hall, but are probably closer to the Alesis algorithms than any Lexicon algorithms. Plus, the Early section in VRoom is far different than anything Lexicon has done. In general, the Lexicon-style algorithms would work better with a different set of controls than what is found in ValhallaRoom, so I'm not going to be shoehorning these type of algorithms into VRoom.
Does this answer the original question about halls? Or did the original poster have something else in mind for halls that hasn't been covered here?

Right with you, even if it is a conceptual foot race to keep up. But then...valhallasound wrote:

So you're fine with shoeboxes, but not so much with shoehorning? I can appreciate the importance of comfortable shoes, but just pretend for a moment, wouldn't VRoom be even more sexy in painfully tight lexi-spiked heels?valhallasound wrote: ...so I'm not going to be shoehorning these type of algorithms into VRoom.

Best reverb I bought since my Redline! I'm

Dark, cold, velvet, strange, warm, bright, subtile... It does it all. Why the hell did I wait that long before getting it!??
