I've just bought an iPad, and the first app I intend to get is TouchOSC. But on the Hexler website it says you need Pure Data Extended, and Pure Data say it only works on 32 bit Windows 7. Since I'm on 64bit Windows 7 this is a bit of a bummer.
Does anybody know if it will it work on 64bit? If not, what are my alternatives? MAX/MSP looks waaaay too in depth for me.

Is there an easy way to get this to work? I'll be using it with Reason5 and Record 1.5.

If you have Reaktor, that supports OSC.

I think you should be able to get it working with http://www.plogue.com/

You could also try: http://oscvstbridge.sourceforge.net/ (Oh - but not in Reason or Record

There are likely a few other options.

Why don't you just download Pure Data and tell us if it works ? That way we'll all be a bit wiser.

Pd extended works fine on Win 7 X64

Thanks - that's what I needed to know.

BTW, when I said I'd just bought an iPad, i should have perhaps pointed out that it's not yet in my hot, sweaty hands - it should arrive on Monday or Tuesday.

And then App store, here I come!

Be sure to install a Midi loopback driver, so that you can transform osc to midi and send it to any midi app you want.

x64 compatible, freely configurable, any number of loopback ports local on a machine (loopMIDI) and even over network (rtpMIDI)!

btw: TouchOSC iPhone -> PureData (x32 App.) -> loopMIDI (x64 driver) -> cubase 5 (x64 App.) on a win7 x64 os works great here. And back to TouchOSC too, for feedback of TouchOSC controls (LEDs, fader positions, etc)

Once you have installed PD how do you set it up to convert OSC to midi?

I've been hearing about TouchOSC problems with Windows for a while so I just tried connecting TouchOSC to send MIDI to Windows with RTPMidi and it works... here's what the setup looks like:

I didn't even need a loopback driver. RTPMidi created a MIDI port called "laptop" and I used that. This is using Reaktor because that's, you know, my thing, but it should work with other apps too.

Make sure you install Bonjour when the RTPMidi installer recommends it.

Yeah I have it set up like that too but I can't seem to get it to do anything when using TouchOsc. Works fine with Control for iPad but that is more limited and I really want to use TouchOsc. I have created some templates for it including a 4 XY template and a couple I was hoping to use with Kore but they don't do anything even though rtpMIDI seems to be set up right.

Did you configure the controls in the templates to send MIDI? Dumb question, I know, but...

Also, the TouchOSC guy is going to be beta testing something to make ife easier for Windows users - http://hexler.net/forum/viewthread/500/

Yes - at least I think so - can't test them. But the built in ones don't work either so I guess it's something do do with how I've set up TouchOsc and probably on the iPad since my setup looks like yours. So in Touchosc should I be setting it to use OSC or CoreMidi if I'm using rtpMIDI - I'm pretty sure it should be CoreMIDI but there doesn't seem to be any setting to tell it what port to use or is that automatic? Should I disable the OSC perhaps or can it use both at once?

A layout and even the same control can use both at the same time.

Try configuring a control to send a midi note on / off - I suspect that notes make it through but CCs don't. I'd have to boot Windows again and test some more to say for sure.

Actually, try this general MIDI layout I put together a while back. It sends notes and controllers.

I am considering touch OSC in windows 64 bit instead of the Euphonix Artist mix and control, could you tell me if the Touch OSC faders follow automation? In other words do they emulate motorized faders within a sequencer such as cubase, protools, or logic, etc. thx much

i have been having a bonkers time trying to get touchOSC working on windows xp. i even had a dream last night where i got it working, that's how frustrating this has been.

the main problem is i seem to be able to get pure data extended to send "test midi" signals over to ableton live. but the patches that were provided by hexler seem to not be sending anything over. i do have two-way communication between the iphone and pure data though.

so even though i've tried midi yoke, loopbe, loopmidi, touchOSC bridge, i dont think that's the problem.

then i went the route of livecontrol - and that's a whole other ballgame that i can't get working either.

at the heart of this - i still have very little clue how OSC actually works.

TouchOSC on Windows 7 64 bit?
